Hi. I am new to the whole Army thing. My son left on 9/3 for Basic at Ft Benning. He graduates Basic on 11/13. I have searched everywhere for any info I can find. I have read a lot of posts about going to the Ft Benning home page. What is that? I feel like I am not finding the right pages. Could someone please guide me? Is there somewhere I can see pictures? (of maybe my son)Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I miss my son like crazy and can't wait to hug him!!!

Hello,

As far as the Ft. Benning website, google Ft. Benning and it should come up.

I just got my graduation letter in the mail and my son is one week ahead of yours(graduates 11/5-6). So you should be getting your letter soon. I think they are mailed out the 5th week of basics.

Which company, platoon is he in?

Debbie

He is D company, 1/329th. I have no idea what any of that means. I have talked to him a few times and he usually sounds good. Last time he sounded very tired!

Hi Debbie & Katie. Nice to "meet" you! I know we are all counting down the days til graduation and seeing our boys again. This has been tough! I sure do miss just picking up the phone & calling him whenever I want. I guess (and hope!) communication will be a bit easier once they are out of basic. My son is going to San Antonio for schooling after basic.

Hi! Have you received any more info concerning graduation? My son said he mailed some info but I have not rec'd it. What does 68W mean? This whole military thing is brand new to our family. Where does everyone learn the "slang?" I got to talk to my son today. He is SO ready to get done with basic. Can't wait to see him!!

I am glad that I am not the only one in the dark about graduation. My son is also in D/1-329 and we have not received the graduation info pack. My oldest son graduated from Ft Jackson last year and we had all the info very early for his graduation. I have been told that since theis is a non-infantry BCT class it will not be listed on the Benning site. We were shocked when he was given a Benning training date since he is not infantry.

Best,

Jeff

Hello

My son is not infantry and he is at Ft. Benning for basics (going to graduation in 7 days!!!!!)

He is 68W, which means medic. He'll go to Texas the Friday after his graduation for his AIT (specialized field training, so for my son, medic training)

Trust me, all of us parents on here that appear so knowledgable knew absolutely nothing in the beginning. Only from, talking to other parents on this website and alot of online research did we get 'smart'. Ha!

I went online and googled "military slang" and "military talk". Also, you can type in military jobs, etc. and learn just about anything you want to know. Or just ask on this page and someone is bound to have an answer for you.

KCMOM, did your son say how long ago he mailed the graduation info? If you have not received it within the next few days, I'd contact the main number to the base and let them direct you to the correct person to talk to in order to get that info.

Let us know what you find out,

Oh, and welcome webbdad!

Debbie

Hi All! I got the graduation letter yesterday so feel much better! Only 2 weeks from tomorrow we will get to hug our boy Smile
My son is also going to be a medic and going from Ft Benning to San Antonio. Our current plan is to bring him home with us and then he will fly down from KC on Sat. I have seen some discussion about others leaving on Fri and am wondering if my son is correct in assuming he can come home w/us after graduation and then fly in. I have not bought ticket for him yet.I got a brief call from him on Sunday and he said he will be in the field all week...I also noticed how cold it got down there!!! Hope they all stay warm.
I am finding this most helpful. It took me forever (it seemed) to find a current site like this. I was just thinking this morning how I have not cried over this for a while now.It is oddly comforting to know other parents are "out there" as well.
Thanks to all who chime in.

kcmom,

Maybe our boys will end up in classes together in Texas!

I do know that in order to be able to go home with you after graduation, his DS's have to approve it ahead of time. If it's not approved and the arrangements are made and confirmed that he WILL be there at the military's appointed time, then he won't be allowed to go with you. They'll consider him AWOL if he is late. If you get a chance to talk to him before graduation, ask if he's talked to his DS's.

This time next week I'll be on an airplane headed to Georgia. I can't waite!!!!!!!

Pam, how are you doing?
Donna, ONE WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HOOAH.

I had that same AWOL thought. I am writing him today w/those thoughts so hopefully he will get to call home this weekend. I think I will hold off on buying his plane ticket. We are actually driving down...I have a fear of flying and a thing for road trips! Hopefully weather will be good. Enjoy your trip next week. Give your son an extra hug from all of us. Smile

Hello All! My Fiancé is in the E company of the 1/329th. I have been searching the internet like crazy, looking for some information about graduation. Luis has called about once a week, but keeps saying that they will send something to me. I know that the letter went to his mother and sadly there are some extenuating circumstances with their relationship. So I am just headed to Georgia with no clue what to do. Help from anyone going to the Family Day and Graduation on November 13th would be greatly appriciated. Thank you so much and I hope that you hear good news from your soldier. Mine is doing wonderfully...I can't wait to become and Army wife!

Hi everyone, thank goodness you're out there. I have a nephew in E Co of 1/329th, graduating next week. I'm the only family member that will be able to make the event, but I've managed to lose the letter with all the timing and information. I see the earlier post with the dates and times, but could someone tell me where to go/how to get there. I'm flying in to Atlanta on Tuesday, driving to Columbus, and staying at the Marriot. Thanks!
