My son just left yesterday for Lackland. Just wanted to let you know, do not be surprised I got a call from him today with his address. The call did not come up on caller ID as AF so be sure to answer all calls.
My daughter has been at Lackland 2 weeks now. Last week I got the call with her address and a quick I love you I gotta go. She sounded misserable. I was once in her position 20 yrs ago. My heart about broke so I wrote her a letter telling her how proud I was of her and told her all the funny little things her little brother has done since she left. Please write your son or daughter often and upbeat letters. Mail call is their one morale boost of the day. Nothing sucks worse then no mail at mail call.
Congrats to all those at Lackland AFB! Mail and pictures of home scenes are great. My son loved pics of all the snow we had here that he didn't have to deal with for once. The occasional funny card with a note in it will brighten the day for them. Encouragement is key. I saved all those letters from my son and we read them together every once in a while.

I'm not a parent, I am a wife but seeing Lackland, I got nosey My dh just graduated last weekend from there. It's a nice base! In about a week or so you should get a letter for graduation too. Keep it b/c it is your base pass and tells you whats happening when! Gl to you and your son!
