Alright kinda like a poll but not really just wondering on this... My son was told that because he had a GED that he had to take a test during MEPS to see if he qualified for a bonus. Now on ARMY.com it stated that all people where qualified get an automatic bonus of 5,000. My son was told he doesn't get anything. I find this so wrong. He is active army who is giving his life. I have a freind who has a son who is National Gaurd Non-active who got 40,000. Who does training once a mo. How many of you with your sons are getting a bonus?? Wondring if my son is getting a shaft.

It all depends on his enlistment contract. If there is no bonus listed on his contract, then he will not be getting a bonus.

Although it doesn't make a lot of sense, non-GED or GED without 15 hours of college are restricted from many of the bonuses and jobs. Unfortuantely, a fact of life in the Army is that not everything makes sense.

DH got a 99 on the ASVAB. took a 6 year Enlistment option and had a bachelor's degree going in..and did NOT qualify for a Bonus.

your son's GED automatically excludes him from many jobs and bonuses, nomatter how weklll he did on the ASCAB. and NEVER compare one branch or even one person against yourself.. what bonuses there are.. change daily.. and in fact by and large have been reduced or even eliminated altoegether lately, as they no longer need to bribe people to enlist or stay in.

My son graduated high school, but scored low on his ASVAB. The Army told he doesn't get a bonus because his test score was low and his job isn't dangerous enough. It seems to me that every job in the Army is dangerous...he's training for field artillery.
