I'm at a loss and dont know how to proceed, and I need your help

I called the Am Cross today to try to get a notification sent to my sister on the death of a family member. That's all. I am not requesting leave for her, just that she and her command be notified via official channels. I KNOW FOR A FACT that I recieved calls like this while I was staff in NY.

Now, the Am Cross is refusing to send the message, citing ARMY regulation 600-8-10 which is the ARMY LEAVE policy. I asked for the Navy reg (my sis is Navy) and they said "this policy was adopted by all branches". I know this is bull, as if an Army regulation is adopted by all branches then each branch comes up with its own reg number (like the military medical enterance regs). This is also bull as I AM NOT REQUESTING LEAVE. just a message. Seriously, that's their job according to their statement on their site.

Not the first time I've had issues with them, when that huge tornado hit Greensburg my SIL's mom, sister, grandmother, and brother lived there. She was doing drill in MD as part of the Army reserves. We called Am Cross, which was covering both the Tornado and is supposed to notify military. Yeah, no help

Any ideas?

Hmmmmmmmmm, try calling the Red Cross office in another town? I've never heard of them refusing to notify someone of a death even though you are not requesting them to come home.

I sent notifications to my husband through the Red Cross for a couple of things when he was on air craft carriers and was not requesting him home. I also used them once to request him home for a death in the family.

Yeah that isn't sounding right at all. When dh got notified his Grandmother was dying it wasn't a problem. Then again about 5 years later when his Grandfather was dying it wasn't an issue either. It wasn't to request leave but to just notify the command, who in the end did grant him leave.

Have you tried calling the Red Cross' Armed Forces Emergency Services number? (800-842-7349) That's the number I have my Soldiers call.

that was who we were on the phone with last night because the local office was closed. 2 different calls, 2 different people, same answer.

Luckily I found someone local this morning who is actually willing to help. But, until the coroner releases the body to the family they can't do the verification. So, I have to wait again.
