I'm still very new to this. I've been looking into plane tickets and hotel stays for when my fiance graduates from boot camp in Great Lakes. Does anyone have any idea of a good place to stay thats not to far from the base. I know its early I just like to try and get things in order. Thanks for any help. =)

will you have your own transportation? Look in Gurnee. there is a Comfort Inn that has an indoor pool that is very close to the mall and is across the parking lot from a Cracker Barrel and some Seafood joint.

that's about 20 minutes or so from RTC. other than the Navy Lodge, there really isn't anything else that close. and yes you can stay at the Navy Lodge. but rooms go very quickly there.

Thank you for your help =) I'm planning on renting a car while I'm there. I live in Texas so its a bit far to drive unfortunately. Is the base pretty easy to find. I'm worried about driving in a strange city. I tend to get lost even in places I know lol.

we had Maggie the GPS in January( plus DH remembered HIS time there 12 years ago). use mapquest or AAA for directions from the airport to the hotel. wouldn't be a bit surprised if the hotels in Gurnee all had directions to RTC too.

Takes about an hour from either airport to get to RTC.

I'm thinking of using O'Hara. It really depends on what airport is going to be cheaper for the airplane tickets.

I know for us, flying from BWI it was cheaper to use Midway.

Southwest tends to have the cheapest rates if there is an airport near you that they serve, especially if you can get the internet fairs. Southwest flies into Midway and so does Continental I believe. For Southwest, you will have to go to its own website as it does not list on Expedia, Travelocity or any of the others. Midway is also easier for getting a car since you walk from the terminal to the garage to pick up your car but you have to catch a shuttle at O'Hare. That is not really a big deal on the day that you come in but is a real pain on the way back out as the directions are very confusing for getting back to the drop off point (I fly there on a regular basis).
