Hi everyone, I met someone stationed in Iraq thorough an online dating site a few months ago and he told me he was coming back to the US in Oct. He's last email said he was leaving Iraq on Oct 2nd. As of now I still haven't heard anything from him. Is this normal?? How long could the trip back home take? thanks
there is no way to contact anyone in transit from a deployment location. only way is for them to be in a place where they can get online or access a phone.. and most of the time, that is NOT possible.
and it can take a week or longer for them to get back.
This is a tough situation...best tip is to contact loved ones and be patient. Often times, military personnel have delays and in their transit.
Even the branch of service may have a somewhat difficult time unless it is truly an emergency, in which case Members may be sought out.
Good question as friends often times want to reach out to others.

Not necessarily, especially if they are only on board a short time period.. the Network ADMIN team must assign them an email address specific to the ship and that doesn't always get done for Temporaray personnel.
Now the Navy has a one size fits everybody email address that they *can* be assigned.. but uhh.. NMCI is not exactly the most reliable of systems( it's nickname is No Mail Coming In) Not sure if the CG has a similar service wide system which is accessible from all DoD computers.. esp. since technically, the CG is DHS and not DoD.
