I have a confusing question. We are relocating to Lemoore California in about a month. My brother has decided that he would like to move to California with us. We would prefer to live on base because it is an easier transition but I do not know the stipulations on what a dependent is. Can we claim my brother as a dependent to allow him to live on base? Someone told us that we just have to add him to my husbands page 2 but I do not think it is that easy. My brother is 21 and has diabetes. He was at one time on SSI but thought he could work and realizes now that it is still difficult with the diabetes. Anyway just wondering how hard this is going to be.
Thanks
Amber

You would have to prove that you are providing a certain % of his living, and I think also be claiming him on your taxes (not 100% sure on that part). My understanding is that it's a long process and that you'd better have your duckies in a row for you to try it.

Thank you. THat is what we were afraid of. We should have tried to figure this out a while back but weren't sure on his moving with us. Looks like I am back to the drawing board on trying to find a nice place out in town.

Thanks
Amber

I'm sorry, I don't have much information for that, but I would like to say welcome to California and welcome to the valley. lol
There are no seasons here, just hot and cold. For a fun night out, I recommend going to The Chukchansi Palace casino in Lemoore. Other than that, it's a small town with not much to do. For good shopping, you can go to the big mall in Fresno. Fresno also has alot of nice restaurants to try.
If you want any other advice on what there is to do over there, go ahead and contact me. Smile
Where are you coming from?

Yup, you would have to prove that you were providing 51% for him. I don't know what the process is and if it's easy to go and do for a sibling who is already an adult.

I know my Bunny was able to add my mom on his page 2, but it was a long process, not necessarily hard, just time consuming.

Okay, here's the thing, you would need the

DD Form 137-3

DD Form 1172

All of that has to be notarized.
The DD Form 137-3 must be the newest version of the form. You can google it. I just looked it up and the newest form is January 2008.

Just remember to look for the newest version of the form.

that would have to be submited by the service member and it will be sent to Indiana for approval. It does take time. Like 3 months. Like I said, it is time consuming.
