Hello...... it's been a while since we've done this & it seems as though we've ALL been extremely busy these last 6 months or so... I thought it was time we updated one another again so we can keep up with each other & also update our prayers....

If you're new to visiting the site, please give us a brief overview of your family so yours can be included in our prayers also.

God bless you all!
Amy

OUR UPDATE

We just returned from a WONDERFUL weekend at Smith Lake (Fort Bragg MWR Campground). We were able to spend 3 days and nights with Tom (hubby) over Memorial Day weekend. We rode horses, played paintball, went to the lake beach, general camping activities and just enjoyed being WITH each other with no responsibilities.

Unfortunately, we had to leave Tom behind of course, at Fort Bragg. But, the weekend was a blissful reprieve from the every day tangles of life. It refreshed every one of us.

Tom - On orders for the Army NG at Fort Bragg as an instructor for four months - through mid-August.... he's working out, getting in better shape physically.... doing well.

Amy - Health isn't the greatest, but I'm seeing doctors and getting help... it's not too bad. I'm considering leaving my job - lots up in the air with me... need your prayers.

Megan - struggling with Language Arts at school, made progress with friends and social life problems... struggles with anger issues.

Hunter - Diagnosed recently with clinical depression, but doing pretty well recently... Just passed his math End of Grade test (unexpectedly) - big self esteem boost!

Emma - Now 3 years old, signed up for preschool in the fall, but STILL struggling with potty training. She is TOO smart, just flat tells me she doesn't WANT TO. And, with me working and so busy I am not able to push it, have to rely on sitters... not working. (Although, we've made progress in the last week or so).

Toby - our dog. Doing just fine and recovered nicely from the dog attack.

God bless you!
Amy

Amy, I'm so glad you had such a wonderful weekend. I'm sure it helped everyone's frame of mind and just general attitudes.

I keep all of you in my prayers!

Hi everyone....
Its been almost 3 months since my dh and I lost our baby and 9 weeks since we've been in San Diego. I have my good days and my bad, but am doing well, over all -- in terms of that. My dh has been amazing.

In other things, I've seemed to find a great pain management team at UCSD to help with my RSD/CPRS (complex regional pain syndrome)-- just waiting on Tri Care to approve all the treatments and procedures they want to do.

I am not having quite as much luck at the main naval hospital. Tommorow I have my "2nd opinion" neurology consult, as I wasn't too happy with the first provider I was assigned to. Please pray that that goes well and that my 2nd opinion dr turns out to be the right doctor and best fit for me. Kinda nervous about that....

At least I am having some luck with other services and specialists at SD .....

I am a little frustrated with all the medical stuff right now and wish everyone could get on the same page, but I am trying to remember new doctors have new ideas and each MTF likes to do things differently.... But, my opinion of it all is, "if its not broken, dont fix it" .

Still looking for a good church in San Diego and I am open for suggestions if anyone has any ideas....

Prayers for all

Emma can't be 3 already!!!! lol.
Glad to hear y'all were able to see Tom for awhile. very good!

I'm just trying to get over this funk. But I've figured out a few things I might be able to do in the world of calming and relaxing me. I picked up painting again today. I've never been very good at it. but enjoyed it. I found some wood(ish) craft things at the craft store, Michaels, today and picked one up. Already have the base coat on it. A very relaxing hour I had this afternoon while the house was quiet. Big Grin
I'll be spending this summer with the parents since the financial aide didint work out. I'm pretty bummed about it. But again, figure He has something up his sleeve. We'll see what happens!

Blessing for all!
Liz

I know what you mean about Balboa. I ended up requesting a doctor outside and it was granted. It was a nightmare trying to get seen at Balboa, Clairemont Mesa or anywhere else.

The neurologist I had when I was there was alright but I have seen better in the past. The Opthamologist I had was AWESOME!! He had some "newbies" with him one appointment and asked if it was alright it they were there. I said fine and they loved it, I was their new learning case for the year apparently. lol

Any type of church specific you are looking for? We usually went to non denominational ourselves but found this nice small church that is Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA) and the pastor and his family are awesome. So are the people there. If you want the name I will give it to you.

Kristin... praying for you and hubby.

Liz, I'm glad to see your take on the difficult situation you find yourself in. I'm trying the same... I have so many things I'd like to do right now, but I'm trying to wait & see if it's in God's will... I don't want to jump in over my head and later find out God had other plans for me and I just screwed them up by acting too soon... It's hard to be patient.

God bless you,
Amy

Patience is not my best virtue. But I digress. we'll see what happens next, like you said.
Got the MRI results today. Head is normal (no peanut gallery remarks.) Wink but no word on what the cause of the headaches is. Stress??? who knows. well, Him, but he isnt telling yet. knee is a different story. Torn meniscus. Ill hopefully get an appt for next week to see what the ortho says. I'm figuring surgery.

Blessings

Liz - I had a lot of migraine trouble years back... (actually they are returning with the recent stress, but I'm aware of the cause).

When Tom left for Iraq, they were at their peak... what I found ended them was a TOTAL change in my life... I quit my job to help the kids, I began exercizing regularly, I spent time doing things like having picnics & bike rides with the kids... and I spent more time studying my bible. By the end of that year I was healthier in every way - and no more migraines.

Perhaps this was God's plan for your summer.... to make you take a step back, breathe, rest, exercize, refocus and bring yourself to better health...

God bless you!
Amy

Don't get me going on migraines. LOL Suffered through them for years and some things work, some don't. You have to find what works for you and it helps to keep a diary to determine your triggers.

I know stress and barometric changes are my 2 main triggers.

Putting Tiger Balm across the back of my neck can help. I just read an article about low magnesium and riboflavin(B2) levels and migraines and will be giving the vitamin boost a try.

Try to figure out your triggers first and then go from there on treatment.

My migraine triggers are on-coming headlights (part of why I rarely drive in the dark, definately only for short periods) and low blood sugar. Figured the last part out because I used to eat only a grapefruit for breakfast, figured it was healthy. My body couldn't make the sugars last through to lunch and I'd get an aura and then a full-blown migraine. Now, I normally eat eggs and toast for breakfast.

Do you get auras?

I love imitrex......though, now that I know my triggers I have to use it.

Have fun with the family!

Gods blessings to everyone!

My family is very familiar with migraines. My sister has suffered with them since she was in the fifth grade.I've been keeping a conscious effort to watch for the triggers. Have only had one since being home. We'll see what happens over time. They noticed awhile back that my B vitamin levels were low so put me on a B complex pill. but apparently i wasnt absorbing so now im on weekly shots. Its just oh so much fun.

My only bit of advice on treating migraines (after you've already got them) is to make sure you have a doctor that you like and who you feel is listening and helping.

I was fortunate back in those days to have two such doctors --- the first, my primary care doc, would allow me to call when it got bad to let them know I was coming - the nurse would give me a shot and I'd go home and sleep it off, never having to see the doctor. (This was after having dealt with them for months obviously).

The second was a Neurologist who was extremely thorough in trying to find the cause and prevent them....

For me,it came down to a combination of stress - and low oxygen level in my blood/brain (asthma/allergies). Losing weight helped with the asthma issues (exercising) and quitting my job and enjoying life dealt with the other...

Like SgtMom said, everyone's migraines are unique, but usually stress is an important factor in most cases.

God bless you.

ANY MORE UPDATES EVERYONE?????????

I just read my first post and realised that I never introduced myself when I started posting, so apologies for that. Smile

My DF is in the Army, two years plus now and we are close to the end of our first deployement.
My son and I still live at home outside the US but are planning to move with DF when he gets home and we are (finally!) married.
I am very new to military - US especially, so everything still seems a little daunting ... but I'm getting there!

I'm doing my second degree and really enjoying it, keeps me focused and I love to learn.

Last year I was diagnoised with Bi Polar, which I have only recently (last month) told my family. I was really scared initially, but lots of research and prayers later I am starting to understand myself a bit better, so finally making peace with it.
It is such a complex and personal disorder that I believe I will always be discovering more about myself, but by the grace of God I will continue to keep moving forward.

Thats it!

God Bless
Marisa

Just found out today that I'll be having surgery sometime in the next two weeks on both knees. I aggravated the right knee (the one I dislocated Dec 07) this weekend. And that coupled with the problems on the left knee from the car accident we're going to take care of both issues at once. Should prove to be an interesting few weeks!

A HA! Now see there..... how would you have managed school this summer with knee surgery...

I'll be praying for you.

I go for carpal tunnel release surgery on my left wrist and a cortisone shot in my right one on Friday. I'll be glad to have it over with... my carpal tunnel in both wrists has become extreme. Nothing was working anymore for the left.

God bless you!

To answer your question, I am looking for a baptist church if I can find one...

Elemanski & Amy--
Praying that yalls surgeries go well and you both recover soon. I had two surgies done during dh's last deployement and another scheduled for sometime late this summer (during dh's next deployement), so I understand what yall are going through...

My latest update is that the carpal tunnel surgery went well. The recovery is going pretty good, just not as fast as I'd like. I want to use my hand... get it out of the sling, but anytime I take it out for long I end up with swollen fingers & pain... patience has never been my strong suit.

Tom wasn't able to come home for the measley 36 hours they had offered him before.... two other NCO's had family emergencys and had to be gone at the last minute, so the kids grow more anxious every day & more aggrevating to me... and my stress level goes up & up...

One day at a time...

God bless you all,
Amy

Everything seems to be going well. My left leg is doing extremely well. the right is a little bit slower. but they ended up doing some extra unexpected work that included a nice 4 inch internal incision to a muscle. But he did clear me to travel to Washington and Colorado at the end of the month. So I atleast have something to look forward to. 8 days on the couch is taking its toll though. Stitches come out monday!
