It is in US interest to engage China and at the same time gently nudge the country toward democracy. Yes, China is a communist country, but if you ever travel to China you will notice that its people have a capitalist mindset, the old communist way is fading. It is changing not at a pace that the West may want it most important it is changing.
The EU communities are slowing working toward a non reliance altitude toward US. They no longer need US protection as the Cold War had ended. Many of their foreign policies does not cater for US interest. If EU and China find a way to foster closer relation, US will be left out in the cold. US should seriously think of working closely with China to foster a closer relationship, militarily and commercially. In long run, both country will benefit. |

Or, we could just strengthen our existing friendships with Japan, South Korea, Australia and Canada while accelerating the development of our friendship with India and restablishing a more official friendship with Taiwan.

I'm always consistently surprised by the idea of "If we forge closer relationships with China they'll want democracy etc etc and be friendly"
No.....i've not spoken to 1 single chinese citizen that wants democracy. THey all think that China is fine the way it is and that the CCP is the only party capable of ruling China and that if they had democracy the country would fracture. Why?? Because they've got money in their pockets and food in their mouths so they figure the CCP is doing a good job. Which is an illusion. The majority almost all of China's growth is driven from Foreign Investment and capital and there is very little home grown domestic growth. If we all left China alone their economy would shrink and the average person would be upset about their lack of money. People beg for democracy when they think democracy will make them more wealthy. Chinese people are already getting wealthy so they figure the CCP is doing ok and there is no need for change. Nobody ever wants to change unless the system is obviously broken which in their eyes it IS NOT. Closer relationships with CHina only gives them the means to lord economics over us and the cash to buy weapons from us to shoot us in the back later. I hate bleeding hearts. |

Hasn't history taught us lesson already?
There is no such "good" or "perfect" government. What's one main job of a government? it is to take care of their people. What was the main reason why people overthrown their government? Because their people was not happy. Given the situation with our high oil prices and subprime issue. This current government is no better than China's. The average Joe on the street doesn't care about China or anyone beside the wel being of himself or his family. |

How do you get that idea??or you are just lying I've claim that I hate the despotic CCP too and I want democracy, but just not the democracy imposed by the facist like you.And many chinese have same idea with me.
The growth of the China's economic is result of popularization of education and science. The left of the investment maybe slow down but can never stop the stride of China.
You showed your ignorant again.China never buy a weapon since 1989. |

That picture is soooooooo god damn creepy. Especially the guy with the AK and the other dude thats doing a half-assed version of the Hitler salute. Only thing I'd change about the picture. "We are determined to liberate Taiwan" Change to "We are determined to conquer Taiwan and put them back in line" Damn commies. |

I fail to see your point? So what if that was painted/drawn in the 60's? How is it any different than what China is STILL trying to do? Also onibattousai are you a US Citizen? Because based on your posts I'd swear you were a Chinese citizen. If you are indeed a USA citizen then thats whats wrong with your country. Too much apologizing for others rather than thinking about the USA. |

you think China is still trying to liberate Taiwan? That was the message on that 60s poster, which it was the "movement" at that time.
Currently, I think China is just trying to co-exist with taiwan as long as they don't call for independent. What's wrong with our country? People who tried to relive the past thru our current time. The new world trend is co-exist and not domination, or colonization before it. |

good thing he is not in charge with any of our foreign policy. or else i am sure US will suffer further. 13 billions population and not to mention those people got money. what seems to be the problem with everyone trying to invest in Chinese market. do you know uncle sam? |

No, it is China who would suffer. The Chicoms know this, but use propoganda to convince their citizens otherwise. We need to make sure our friends stay unified for when the day comes that the Red Dragon's house of cards finally implodes and they turn their carefully crafted nationalism into imperialism in a last ditch effort to save themselves. |

Doesn't matter how you think. The world is governed and run by ecomony and money speaks volume.
As the world is in global financial crsis, companies are looking into expanding their market shares. What do you think has the most protential and biggest untap market to the western world? Think War still an option when it comes to making money? Thanks to the republicans now we are in trillions of debts and China is one of the biggest owner of those debts. Stll think there is a bargaining chip? |

Maybe economy matters to everyone but when Wall Street destroys main street, the people have a right to react and take our country back from the traitors who would sell it down the road.
