Dalai Lama says China is good for Tibet
India Gazette
Saturday 19th January, 2008

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has said that Tibet has gained greater material benefit under China authority.

While addressing students of the Indian Institute of Management, he said every Tibetan wanted Tibet to modernise.

He said as far as material development was concerned, the country received greater benefit from remaining within the Peoples Republic of China.
Nevertheless, he said, Tibetans should fight for the 'wholesome interests' of Tibet and have meaningful autonomy.

even dalai lama has to admit it.

For modernization benefits, sure...but not for religious and social freedoms. Also, I hear Tibet has become an eco-disaster thanks to Chinese industrial rape.

Tibet will be punished for their protests once the Olympics are over, just you wait and see.

I believe in religious freedom but that doesn't mean we can't discriminate. Tibetan monks have tons of little boys up in their high holy mountains. Don't tell me that doesn't seem foul to you, because it certainly does to me.

I really don't know how many of us truely understand how government runs regardless of agenda.

China, is indeed a country that is improving and needing improvements. However, we can't go blindfolded and point every single fault at China. China is merely 50ish old government. you can't expect things to run smoothy and quicky like other nations has been for 100s of years. There are groups, people, and regulations to overcome.

Take economy for example, China solely relays on its industrial market to boost its ecomony. Which means environmental unfriendly sacrifies. Which it helps attracting foreign investors, thus helping the ecomony. However, don't blame solely on China for that. The foreign investors are equally quilty. instead of dumping on your backyard, they dump it in china. In excahnge china get economic boost. every raising countries goes thru this sort of stages. Where they take on the lower jobs of the world in exchange for survival.

technology, China is making cheap low quality products. That's the niche market of the world. investors loves it and in return get economic boost and its improving and reviving the technology sector of China. thru it, they are build a fundation for acquiring better technology and soon can make things that compete with the best of the world. example take Japan and taiwan.

We should pinpoint and focus on things that China can improve upon and be fair and objective.

They (China) need to do things the right way and not just what others did in the past. True, if there were no market (ie. foreign investors) then the eco-problems wouldn't be as great, so I agree that it is a problem that should be addressed from both sides if possible. Please remember however, that the land is still governed by the (greedy) Chicoms, so if they really wanted to they could easily enact laws to mitigate much of the eco-pollution.

of course China share equal responsibility in that matter.

I was just pointing out people who like to jump to conclusion.
