I am trying to get back into the military except this time I am not going to complain of anything and get out. I want the military as a career. I am going to get a letter from my doctor stating that I do not have my illness anymore and send my package up for consideration. Has anyone dealt with this issue before and do I have a chance to make the military a career for the rest of my life? Please help!!! Mary McIlroy

When you re-enlist, have your medical information ready. You may need a waiver to re-enlist, but if your doctor can verify you no longer are suffering from your earlier illness, you may be granted a re-enlistment. Good Luck.

I am also going through the same situation. I would like to re-enlist back into the Navy. I received a RE-3P code(which can be waivered).I was cleared by a doctor back in 2002 and was able to joing the AF Reserves. Good luck!

You need a waiver from the Guard medical staff. The recruiter should process this. The chances are slim and none unless you have a critical skill or your disability is non-limiting. You will give up VA comp during the period you are in the Guard.

Your best bet is to get your medical records together, letters from doctor/doctors, let your recruiter take you to MEPS and let MEPS determine what you need.

If you do need a waiver MEPS will advise, or MEPS could send you for a consult, and or require a waiver.

It all depends on what the medical condition was, is, surgeries, limitations, etc.

I am speaking from 9 years recruiting experience and submitting many waiver requests.

You never know what you will get at MEPS. I have taken applicants that I was sure would not make it and did, and taken applicants that I thought wouldn't have problems and did.

It's also going to depend on the MOS. All MOSs have physical and mental minimum requirements.
