The VA has taken $170.00 out of my social security without explanation and I don't know why. They have also asked for an additional $87.00. Which I paid and was refunded.
I don't owe them any money; never did and hopefully never will, but if I ever did I would pay them promptly like my wife and I always have paid our bills.
I wrote to Congressman Robert Wexler and Senator John McCain but they are not willing (or able) to look into the matter and/or help me.
It's sad to think that fifty years from now the Veterans Administration will treat one of todays veterans the same way.
I may be off base griping about this but it just doesn't seem fair. I'm sure the VA is a much respected organization; for all the good they do.
I guess the bad part about this thing is all the crying I have to do in pursuit of ideals that in the long run are more important then discretion itself.

I know they can take their money from your tax return, happened to me. It was a disputed debt and drug on for some time, they just helped themselves.

They won't even tell me why they docked my SS, no bill, no statement, no explanation. They're too important, they don't need a reason. To make matters worse, there's no recourse. I guess I just don't get it. Anyway; thanks for your response.

Run DON'T Walk to your nearest VSO, contact your congressman, senator and the IG at VA. This cannot be allowed to happen to you or any other service member past or present.

Contact your VSO,if you are working with one now, if not find one so they can take your POA and get it entered into the system. They would then go up to finance and get a print out of the reason the VA took the money. After that they will explain to you why the VA garnished your check. At that point the VSO will file what is called a Notice of Disagreement and ask for either a de novo review or Decision Review Officers hearing or both. Unless this is a Hospital matter and then a different set of actions would take place. We both would go down to hospital finance and get the financial records and see were the debt incurred. Then go to the Patients advocate and work with them on getting the problem resolved.
