I was 17 when I joined. Busted me last year for posessing minute particle of hashish. I was wrong (Lets say I've matured LOL!) and I was also suffering from severe ADHD and would easily qualify as inappropriate for service nowdays. I couldn't even organize myself into getting past E-2. I was also too proud and dumb to admit I had a problem. People used to just wonder about me. Here's the juice of my story. After I got busted (30days in brig on Nimitz, fort. pay, etc...) I put myself into the hands of NIS. For the next 6 monthe of my enlistment I worked undercover on the carrier, and in the streets of forign countries as well. I actually broke a record for being the major player in the biggest bust on forgien soil (EGYPT) @ that time in NIS history. End of enlistment came and I was discharged with a general discharge, I believe the federal goverment won't recognize me as honorable discharged. I'm almost 50 now and it sticks in my crawl that I cannot be recognized as having served honorably. Now some people cannot tolerate a "narc" as I was affectionally known, but I don't understand that now. See, I busted alot of people who were selling illegal substances onboard the Nimitz while we were @ sea, and this would be a good thing right?? I mean we were almost @ was then, this is just @ the time of the taking of the 52 hostages from the U.S. embassy in Iran. At one point my situation became very volatile (imagine being onboard with a number of people knowing what you were doing and some of them were going to wind up going to court-marshall and eventually jail, in the middle of a very large ocean??) and wound up working on a number of European bases one of which I was responsible for busting a major black market figure in the Italian Mafia. Does anyone see this as qualifing as serving honorably??

Just ask me about the Nimitz, or life onboard the carrier. I actually have been watching the T.V. program about life onboard the Nimitz and that is what prompted me to post this topic. Or, if anyone who served onboard the Nimitz between 1977-1981 recognizes me, answer. Gentleman, I assure u I am as real as u are!!

GET OFF YOUR LITTLE ROCK !! I asked Dave if it was "safe" He answered, I thanked him...meaning: Safe, you can take poll etc., It had nothing personal to do with you WHATSOEVER !! It had everything to do with my concern of safety on the NET. Nevertheless, I do wish you the best and Godspeed. P/S If I can help you with anything at all, from Discharge to VA Claim to whatever, please, by all means, address me and you will be answered and helped. I guarantee that. Freddy
Well let's see when stationed in Italy in 1983-85 I had a young Private who worked for me and lived in the barracks. I lived on post in the SEBQ and just about every evening he would beat on my door telling me that they were smoking there Pot again in the barracks and he couldn't stand the smell of it and did not agree with them smoking. I ran it up the chain of command and they refused to do anything about it so I hooked the kid up with the CID well they did bust a bunch of people and as it turned out I had to escort the young Private to Nurnburg Germany on a fear for life transfer, so I know that standing up for your principles sometimes can get you in a position were you may be harmed. Was the kid a Narc, I don't think so! If he was I was his facilator and I was No Narc. I was a Senior NCO looking out for my troops. Sgt D
Sgt. D., Thanks for the reply. I too was in a bad place in Italy (Naples) and @ one point a couple "good guys" came into the barracks and one of em had leather restraints. I used to sleep with a buck stabbed into the mattress and sometimes actually woke up gripping the darn thing. I can't believe, (well I can) that the command ignored you, but I was ostracized in my division onboard ship by the whole division including the officers (OC division) because of my rep @ that point. I was literally begging the NIS creep to send me off of the ship fearing for my safety. The jerk kept trying to have me make more buys which by that time didn't work because of my rep. Thing was the first place they sent me was Rota Spain and somehow 10-15 "good guys" were waiting for me knowing my name, what flight I was on, etc... The security I guess wasn't very strong. I must believe that that kind of $@(& doesn't go over very well now, especially being in Iraq @ war! (@ least I hope it dosen't). I really appreciate your response and I did get the info I wanted from another post about upgrading my DD-214. This will be helpful as I am going to see about working on a reservation in New Mexico for IHS (federal position) seems the reservations are very needy for R.N.'s and such. The extra points would work out well for that position,. I am also glad Sarge that there are persons like you in the military keeping us safe, as the experience I went through really had me soured and quite frankly concerned about the military.
Hey Freddie, Is not a "little rock"!! Its actually a giagantic one that I sit on right on your left shoulder LOL!! Kidding Freddie. As I said eariler, I am damaged goods in some respects. Stay brave Freddy, and again, health, peace, and plentitude be your and your families!
Ah...I appreciate your response, but you have it a little backwards, for it is me that truly wish you health, peace and plentitude for you and yours.
What you read into my post was a version of what you subconciously wanted to read into it, I would think. I say that because NO posting of mine is neither negative nor personal. I insure my answers to be generic in nature so that not only the person I share a thought with can apply it, but anyone else with a similar life issue or circumstance can as well. I am no judge of anything or anyone. I know too well that while young, we do things only much later perhaps to wish we had done it differently. In your case where you worked undercover I suppose and broke up a drug dealing thing on an air craft carrier, I am not familiar with, and I know nothing about Naval ships either. I would think and believe personally that as long as you believe you did the right thing in whatever it was you did, then good for you. I wasn't there and since I never did any drugs myself, I was never in the loop. I do know as a fact that anyone under my leadership that came up positive on a urinalysis or busted for dope, they received absolutely no sympathy from me, and were prosecuted as much or as hard as I could possibly influence. I had no tolerance for dope, and for that matter had no tolerance for alcohol. Again, if there is anything I can help you with, I will, and as I said before, I do sincerely wish you the best of things and Godspeed. A Veteran in Arms Freddy
