Best to you Bro. 5th ANGLICO is the first new one to be stood up in many years. I do NOT know the unit but I have friends on Oki. Drop a line when you get the time and get ready to hump bud. Good socks are the coolest thing.

Good dry socks, and especially good support for the feet are a must. depending on the distance you will have to travel determines how many dry pair of socks to have on hand. If y ou have high arches, or very low ones, a good support pad in the boot's make for a much more comfortable journy anytime. Just don't "over-stuff" your feet in to your boots either.

I'd go on MCI or whatever it's called and get some material on fire support so you can go ahead and learn some of the terminology you'll be using on the net. They ought to have some manuals you can order.

MCI#0861 Basic Forward Observation Procedures, It will be good for you to know whats going on so that you can readily enter info in the DMD or be able to CFF by voice. I whole heartedly recommend.

FM 6-30 Tactics, Techniques and Procedures for Observed Fire

You can probably find a copy of that MCI course book at Stumps (check the library, or one of the instructors might have one).
When you get it, get an empty Air Crew Checklist binder. The PX usually has them. Take some large index cards and fill them out with the basic calls for fire and air. Draw a blank line for wherever a call sign, freq, shell fuse combination, grid, gun target angle, target description, etc goes.
Laminate the cards. 3 hole punch them. They fit into the Air Crew Checklist binder. Divide them into categories with tab dividers for Freqs, Fire for Effect,Registration, Illum, Coordinated Illum, etc.
Get a supply of grease pencils. When you do a call for fire, fill in the blanks with the grease pencil. Wipe them clean when you're done with that mission. The laminate protects the cards, your basic info stays intact.
The book fits into your cargo pocket. The book will also fit into a gallon size zip lock bag.
You will be amazed at the time that will save, and the accuracy of the dope you send the FDC.
Best of luck to you.

I still have mine, when I did the forgettable year with the Nasty Guard, you should have seen the people who wanted to see it for reference.

If you are interested, I will scan all my pages and e-mail them to you so you have the info.

I have mine, too. I played with the SEAD mission card about 20 times to get it right.
The aircrew didn't like the "big sky, little bullet" concept!
I thought it sucked when Phantoms left the inventory. You could spot "Old Smokey" coming from forever, no problem at all with a visual on them. And when they overflew the OP for a visual on the hardpoints they got your attention.

SEAD took a lot of time to set up but for comblock forces and low level was a good concept. Biggest thing was getting the hack set up correctly. It's old school now from the guys I know that are still in. Guess I'm an antique.
