I won't walk this road of comfort, because beaten paths are for beaten men...

I just got a list of billets for the fy08 Marines re-enlisting in the 0651/0656 field from my Comm Chief. There were quite a few billets to MARSOC / FMTU / MSOB etc. Just curious if any 51/56's have served w/ a unit like that. Trying to get a feel for the jobs that are open & decide if I wanna lat-move or not.

Id definitely jump on an opportunity to serve w/ MARSOC and do some high-speed stuff -- just don't know how it would be in the MOSes I hold.

Any insight is appreciated,

I am currently at 1st MSOB. 065X Marines do not IOM servers and LANs like as you would see in a deploying infantry battalion. That type of gear is not here. They do however do the daily administering of the NMCI network, as well as also in charge of the MSOB/MSOC's SDN satelite systems. IOMing the SDN and interfacing with SOCOM data systems is the only thing different that you would see here that you will not see doing at a regular infantry battlion. You should call MSOB data up at 760-725-4688. They are led by a SSgt and are composed mainly of NCOs.

I'm pursuing EOD right now but I'm just making sure I have options if it falls through for whatever reason.

Thanks for the info.

I'm in the middle of my 2nd pump with an infantry unit. As soon as I get back to Lejeune, I have orders taking me to 1st MSOB in Pendleton.

As a 0656, what can i expect there? I'm looking for as many details as possible, especially what the deployment schedule looks like.

I met a Marine at Bethesda Naval Hospital last week I immediately dubbed "Lawrence of Iraqia". He was an LAV driver who had volunteered to play radioman on a patrol across an island in the Tigris. They had just finished the sweep when Johnny Jihad set off an IED under him and the NCOIC on the other end of the cord. The NCO got his bell rung pretty good and Lawrence had both legs and his left arm torn up pretty badly.
It pays to keep a VERY low profile if you're carrying a radio or using it.

I don't think it matters what kind of war or fight you're involved in, communications is always a vital asset to complete the mission. Being so, it is always the first thing that is targeted in most if not all cases. Knock out their communications, and you've caused serious damage to their ability to fight and coordinate their assualt. But we must remember, it works both ways, not just for them, but ourselves as well.

Yep. Command and control are absolutely essential to the efficient completion of a mission and since Johnny Jihad knows that the guy likely to be giving the orders is on one end of that R/T cord and the one who facilitates that is on the other, they both just as well hang signs on their butts saying in large letters "SHOOT ME FIRST!"
