i think thats what I'm going to have my MOS be I'm but I'm not sure if its the you know the guys with radios on the backs thats what i want but i have a crappy recruiter who never makes the time to answer my Q's and the online descriptions are not very clear. well someone let me know
I will translate this morris code for you guys(jk 1776).
I think I am going to have 0621 as my MOS, but I am not sure. Are 0621's the guys that hump around with radios on there backs? That's what I want. I have a crappy recruiter who never takes the time to answer my questions and the descriptions online are not very helpful. Will someone let me know?
0621 MOS is field radio operator. Marines in this MOS do hump radios. They also can be assigned to almost any Marine unit (this includes both ground and airwing units) to operate a variety of radios in different environments, including radios installed in vehicles or in a comm facility, headquarters facility, etc.
one more question. after recruit training and the infantry training would i be going to the MOS school for all of 06 then get placed into whatever they want? or would i go train to become 0621
After boot camp and MCT you will proceed to beautiful 29 Palms CA.
If you have a specific MOS, you will train for that MOS. so If you are a 0621, you'll specifically train for that job.
It's been awhile since I went through FROC(Field Radio Operators Course), but it's about 8-10 weeks if I'm not mistaken. Can someone whose done it more recent help this person out?
What might happen though, is that you report to MCCES, (Marine Corps Communications/Electronics School) and you may have to wait until your class begins. (maybe a week or so)
during this time, you may spend a few days doing working parties, PT, raking sand, cleaning barracks, etc.
Once training begins, you will train only on the 0621 MOS.
Do your best, stay in shape, and stay out of trouble.
Personally, if your Recruiter isn't doing his job and helping prepare you for things to come, I'd let someone else know. Either a higher ranking Recruiter, or a Recruiter from another location would be better. Whatever you signup for MOS wise may not be what you get. It can depend on the current situation of the Corp and where they need personnel. But that doesn't happen all that often so I wouldn't worry about it. But as the other guy said, the more you do, the better you get, the better your chances of getting what and where you want. If you do outstanding in Basic training you could receive a promotion right at Boot Camp. Plus, there's always your next duty station, or inthis case, your MOS school.

In addition to what DS said. Unless you are joining the Reserves you can only be given a Occ field and not a MOS. That is based on the needs of the Corps. And to be honest.......

I see field wireman in your future. A radio operator kind of needs to know how to communicate.
