I went to FROC school with the 8th marines at Camp geiger back in 1978. then my top secrate clearance got froze along with my rank. I'm the grand old PFC of the corps , held the rank for almost 4 years.

Numbers, FROC has been held (I know for a fact) since 1981 at MCCES Bravo Co. in 29 Palms. I'm gonna be checking your story like mad now.

John, before you go all gaga over numbers' dubious claims, you should know that I also went to FROC at the FMF Atlantic Comm School at Camp Geiger in 1981 as well, so he ain't sh*ttin' you on that score. It wasn't associated with 8th Marines, it was just that Geiger WAS home of the 8th Marines.

Roger that, I forgot about my post up there. It's the old age thingie. Eek I was corected by two instructors from that course. They called me a "Bad Gunny" and whacked my pee-pee. Big Grin They also told me that everything was officialy moved to 29 Palms in the 84 time frame.

FROC 88', 29 Palms, Ca.

The only place I want to see 29 Palms is in my rearview mirror! Cool

A thousand pardons Cadiz 1, most of us can't read all that well.
At Pendleton, way back, the FROC was at Horno, Division schools, along with NBC, Map and Aerial Photo and lots of other fun stuff like Jeep school. Being an instructor at Jeep school was like being the daddy to 30 teenage lunatics who all drove like it was a demolition derby.
We got field radio operators from the class and trained them to be Radio Relay ops.
I agree that comms is a dead-end for advancement since gear becomes obsolete and so do you. Retraining meant reupping which, if you fell behind the curve, meant you'd never catch up paywise; a real downer if you had a family.

damn guys, I'm getting some hurt feelings and confusion here....I must of missed a post somewhere. Needless to say I went through FROC right asfter basic, right across the parade field at good old San Diego MCRD. Selected to attend MEOC right after that which was the last one there also. But both gave me some skills and knowledge that got me going in a career field I wouldn't have had otherwise.
Not sure there's a real good answer to the question to be honest. For some yes, for others, no, and yet for even more, the best thing that ever happened.

I attended FROC 20, 1975-1976 at "Two-Niner Stumps", took 10 days leave, then shipped to G Battery, 3/12 Okinawa. Was still 17 years old when I arrived on the Rock.

I went to Tech school at MCRD SD in the 60's, we were too busy to pay a lot of attention to whatever else was going on, except for the damn parades on Fridays.
