I don't see why not.

Don't expect to use it during the day, you may not even be allowed to have it in your pocket during work/school hours.

I was there in '76 for 2800 school. The best thing I ever did in 29 Palms was ....leave. I was fortunate, though, as I grew up in Redlands, so I could go home every weekend. Also, Norton AFB was still around, so I could go to there and get stinko. Most guys I knew would head to Vegas, Palm Springs, or LA.

Cell phones and laptops are most likely no problem at all (other than retaining ownership of them, but Marines don't steal Roll Eyes).

Just leave the cell phone and laptop in your room unless you're on libo.

Palm Springs is ok.

But do yourself a favor and don't spend every weekend there. You're an adult now and don't need to stay around your family all the time. Get out, have fun, and cut the cord.

I went to COMM School (0621) in 04. The thing to do is get the hell out of 29 Palms. There are plenty of things to do, just do them correctly. First, let your chain of command know what you are going to do. This should cover your *** and the Marines that go with you. Two, NEVER GO ALONE. A Marine on his/her own is a target, read your Terrorism Briefs. and Lastly, do things that will not interfere with your studies. You are there to learn and not f-off. The Marine Corps needs a qualified Radio Operator, if you get in trouble/ fail a test/ do something stupid, you have only yourself to blame when they rake you over the coals. You are responsible for your own success. Do your work and then party hard.

That is all!

Yea I just got out here finally. Its not as bad as many people make it out to be. Yea its a desert. Big deal get used to it because before you go to iraq you are probably going to come here for mojave viper anyways. But yea cellphones and laptops are no biggie. You have all that money to spend. Field day every thurs at MCCES and they aren't to hard.

We hit LA every other weekend and TJ
Ditto. 10 yrs ago. Prbly wouldn't do TJ now though. But LA, San Diego, Vegas - all about 2 hours away - North, South & East respectively. When you go out absolutely go with a friend(s). Oh yeah, since this is your MOS school - STUDY!!!!! Smile

"Field Day every Thurs" -> everywhere I went it was field day every Thurs. Oki was the worst - had a SSgt lick the toilet bowl to check if it was clean. No Sh.t! (No Pun! Big Grin ) Loved it!!!!

Wow, after all these years I'm still asking myself what is there to do in 29, and I still come up dry.

The only good view of that place was in my rearview mirror...

what the hell do you need to go anywhere for..they base has everything you could possibly want or need.....ok, I'm just kidding, but the base does have a large MWR (morale, welfare & recreation) & there is alot you can do on base, but like it has been said by other before me, hope & bus, rent a car or find a friend that has a car, & drive to the places in CA that you always hear about on tv..Palm Springs (great for Spring Break), parts of LA, San Diego (the Zoo is free if you wear your uniform), & hollywood for just a few places....enjoy yourself, but REMEMBER what your there for!!! learn first, play later!!

Monica Moya - you a Marine, if so update the profile. So you know, yes there are some there - just not many in comparison to the # of guys on base.

There are women on base, but a lot of them are Permanent Personnel. You DON'T date permanent personnel, against the Regs.

Other things to do ON BASE:
Horse Back Riding, Bowling, Gymnasiums, Olympic Size Pool, Golf, Strolls around BEAUTIFUL Lake Bandini, Table Pool, Tennis, Squash, and Enlisted Club.

Male to female ratio on base (last brief I got) was somewhere around 59 males for every female on base. This isn't just MCCES students, this is total personnel. If you are at MCCES, the odds are a little better, at about a 28:1 male/female ratio.

1-Drink lots of Schlitz Malt Liquor at the E-Club.
2-Buy a crappy car in town and pay 3 times what it's worth.
3-Load up car with many jarheads and go to Palm Springs, LA, SD, Hollywood, Lake Havasau, Oceanside, etc. Consume massive amounts of beer.
4-Rock climb and camp with your buds at Joshua Tree National Park. Drink alarming quantities of beer.
5-Have brawls with Hispanic gang members.
6-Avoid getting arrested.
7-Flunk out and get sent to Wire School at Pendleton. They have an E-Club there too...and beer!
8-Do working parties for a few weeks, then get orders for Wire school at Lejeune
9-Drive crappy, overpriced car across country in two days.
10-Attend Wire school at Lejeune, but don't flunk out of Wire school at Lejeune. Eradicate disturbing amounts of beer at Lejeune's E-Club.
11-Go to Court Street and the Thunderbird and wonder what all the fuss is about and have many cold beers.
12-Repeat as necessary until enlistment expires.

Wink
