ive been at 29 palms for 2 weeks going through the 0621 field radio operator school and im trying to figure out what the hell there is to do in this place. can someone please give me some ideas.
Study, study, study. Pay special attention to all the SINCGARS radios and OE-254. You will use them more than anything else. I am in a grunt unit and that is what we use. Have fun.
Stay out of trouble too! MCCES is known for handing out NJP's like candy. Like the other Marine said... Study, study, study. This is your last step before the fleet so its time to get prepared.
Yes eat ice cream! Just kidding, but they do have a Froster Freeze there, I think it's by a Barber shop some where in that ghetto town , I just love the city yet it has nothing there, good night skylight, very peacfull!
From what I understand all MOS schools have curfews and more restrictions set in place. Which is a real shame. There's plenty to do out there if you could travel a bit.
Too bad you won't get to experience 29 in the summer months.
Are there restrictions of how far you can go? If you are really that bored, climb the mountain , It's kinda small though. My Grandpa and Grandma live right infront of it, It's in their backyard, Almost, Maybe about 20-40 feet away.
If you're a chick, you can hang out at the Infantry Barracks. We'd love to have ya!
Consider yourselves lucky about those new barracks. I remember looking around in that place when I was in checkout status. I can't believe that there is an elevator in there.
I'm a Male Wannabee, LOL, and when did they make new Barracks? I dont live in 29 Palms either, Wish I kinda did, Theres goods and bads about it though, Mainly bads but still good.
Oh Apollo, Do you know if they are or were building some training zone there that make it look like its an area in Iraq or the middle east, My Grandpa is going to be taking me, probley my brother and dad on base and going around, So if you see some 5'5-5'6 white skined, black haired skin, Thats me, well later.
If you're lacking wheels, catch the Palm Springs bus. Round trip is $25. Leave Friday night or Saturday morning, you can spend the night in Palm Springs or head to the more conservative Palm Desert area for an extra buck on the palm springs transit system.
Then just catch the bus back Sunday night where it dropped you off.
When I was in Comm school I did this trip about four times. I had a blast.
Grab a bus schedule from the exchange down the hill. The Saturday bus will pick you up @ bldg 1661 around 10-10:30 in the morning. Never took the friday night bus though.
?WHAT TO DO IN 29 PALMS? 1. Get Tattoo's, and if you choose motto, do it right, Anchor's Face Inboard!, Spell Semper Fidelis correctly...ive seen many messed up ones. 2. E Club, Movie Theater, SMP (THEY ALWAYS HAVE TRIPS TO GO TO AMUSEMENT PARKS), Go out in town. 3. Study, graduate honor and get promoted. 4. Go to the gym 5. Wonder around the PX until you know the price of every item in there. 6. Go to the Library, rent dvd's, check out books, use the internet. !THINGS NOT TO DO!
1.Do not drink in the barracks, do not drink underage. 2.Do not get pregnate or get a chick pregnate. 3.Do not get it trouble period, that place is the easiest place to get NJP's.
I was in the stumps in 1982-83 going to FROC. 2531. That is like over 20 years ago. So I don't really know what its like now, it could have changed out the RAS by now. I tell you what I used to do. I would go to Palm Springs and look for the ladies. You know in the Stumps, women were scarce. Just a bunch of drunk Marines wanting to fight at the E club all the time. Another cool spot was LOS ANGELES around Hollywierd. Lots of freaks there man. I wonder if they all died of aids by now. So you can check out LA if you wanna get your freak on. Good luck.
