Say it ain't so Mr. Hayden!
Some folks had a hunch something like a "Peace with Honor" deal in Iraq was afoot when the "prince" of darkness himself, Henry Kissenger, began visiting the westwing in late 2006. Read the book "No Peace No Honor" about the good Dr.K and just how we extricated ourselves out of the Vietnam War.One can only wonder what advise Dr.Kissenger had to give to the POTUS. http://www.amazon.com/No-Peace-Honor-Kissinger-Betrayal...id=1200940359&sr=1-1 Great article Mr. Hayden. |

Something that many of us who were there have been saying would happen, for 2 years now. Just as soon as we leave, they will go at it again. Except that I believe the real "War on "Terror" will continue, most assuredly in Afghanistan... where it always SHOULD have been fought and where the people we were after in the first place still are. |

When I say "knock it off" I mean "knock it off". |
Excellent point except that the terrorists we SHOULD be after aren't in A-stan anymore they're in Pakistan. Of all escape mechanisms, Death is the most efficient. ~~ H.L. Mencken |

Yes, well that's what we have been told. But we have also been told they aren't. The Taliban certainly is, but is Al Quaida? And where is that guy...old what's his name, BIN LADEN??? He's alive. That's the shame of it all. |

An interesting theory. I wouldn't put it past our enemy, who are nothing if not smart, pragmatic, and adaptive.

I've responded a number of times on different threads for the past year regarding the Shiia/Sunni tactics. It should come as no surprise to anyone both camps know exactly what they are doing.
The Sunni could not afford to lose any more men to US/Iraqi forces. With that realization, what better way to gain a respite from the war than befriending the US troops. The Sunni are resting and recruiting men to the cause...and we are training them, paying them and providing them with weapons. I believe at last count there is in excess of 70,000 of these new Sunni 'friends' walking the beat with their orange vests. On the other side are the Shiia who basically escaped the wrath of the US military. I believe around 80% of all deaths in Iraq have been Sunni. Even though we recently tried to stir up a hornets nest in and around south-eastern Baghdad, the Shiia didn't bite. Both sides are marshalling their forces, and yes, once we declare things in Iraq are secure enough, we will begin to withdraw combat forces. And when those forces that remain are not powerful enough to intercede, the Sunni and Shiia will go at it...then who do we direct our firepower at? And most of what I know is from our son, currently doing another tour in Iraq. He works with the Sunni militia's, an Anti-Terrorist unit, and I have even spoken with some of the Sunni's in his unit. Two of them spoke very good English and were quite frank about the coming battle. There is no way the Sunni will tolerate control by the Shiia. S/F Gordon |

bwf27,
You may be more correct than you realize. The White House advisor for Iraq from 2003 to 2006 was Megan O'Sullivan - a young civilian with zero military experience. Then the White House got an active duty three star, General Lute, to be the war czar (after six retired generals turned the job down). However, we haven't heard much from General Lute. Perhaps the White House didn't like what he wanted to say. |
