Thanks medicjm....I didn't know that discussion forum existed. It had quite a bit of good information.

I believe that the board meets on 05MAY. I wouldn't expect to see any results for about 6 weeks after that.

Actually the DCO 03-08 board convened on 17MAR08. I've done some follow up paperwork since then at the request of the program director. Just anxiously anticipating the results at this point.

I interviewed an ET that went before the board so I'm interested in seeing the results as well.

I know just how anxious you are. Good luck.

The selections are out! Congrats to Sam. If you don’t mind, may I ask how many times have you put in for DCO. This was my first time so I am curious.

Thank you for the congrats. I can not begin to describe my excitement. I went to college for 2 years carrying a full course load off duty to complete my B.S. in an effort to apply for the program. It is a good feeling to reap the benifits of hard work. To answer your question, I applied twice. I speculate that I would have made it the first time had I not had a medical waiver stumbling block. None the less, it was two times.

SB- Now I am wondering where I went wrong with my package. Although it was my first time applying I felt I had a strong package. I guess you never know. I will make some calls and see how I can improve my chances for the next go around. Any advice? I am curious to know when a selectee will find out where you are going. I have heard that you will receive a commission and find out where you'll go before you even attend DCO school, any ideas. You’ll have to fill me in, even though I wasn’t selected I am quite curios about that process. Do you know if you will be attending DCO 03-08 or 02-08, I have the dates if you need them.

8771290- I don’t know of anywhere the message is available on the internet. I would post it hear but not sure if that info is for internet release, it did not say in the message.

Nothing yet. Try again, it may have got caught in junk mail and permanently deleted. I temporarily disabled it so try again. It's either that or their messaging is very slow.

TexasCrippler, as yourself, I can only speculate with regards to what they are looking for. I have been told that outside activities (i.e. volunteerism) helps show ones diversity. Obviously the board interview is a make or break process and is probably the strongest factor with regards to setting yourself apart from the crowd. As far as your other questions, I have been instructed that I will be commissioned, receive orders, report to my new unit and from there, receive TAD orders to DCO school. I have also been told that I will attend the DCO school in June. I've already been told the dates as well, but I appreciate the offer. If you want to talk in more detail about your package and maybe compare things, look me up in global and give me a call. As far as advice goes, don't give up! Multiply the number of years you have left in the Coast Guard by two and you will get the number of times they can tell you no.

I'm a civilian and was picked up for the DCL program - also heading to DCO school in June. This was my second application, and apparently the DCL selections are occurring only 1x/year. It's been a long wait!

It seems that everyone I talk to says that they were not picked up the first time around, which makes me wonder if the chances of selection are low on the first application, highest on one's second or third attempts, and fall precipitously thereafter.

I do think you guys and gals who are already in the USCG have a serious advantage when applying for these programs. Might as well use it and reapply if you weren't selected this time.
