So I've recently been selected for CWO (ENG) and I like to be forward thinking about my advancement opportunities. It would seem that the incentive to compete for CWO to temp LT is very small if you have enough time to make W-4 and are willing to serve for 30 years, UNLESS you are able to make not only LCDR but CDR. The only thing is I've never met a prior enlisted CDR that was a product of any program other than OCS.
I'm very interested in a little mentoring from any prior CWOs (ENG) who suceeded in making the big leap from O-4 to O-5, if they even exist. From the outside looking in it seems that it is very difficult if not impossible to get the tour diversity that most CDRs have when you were hired as a specialist, and that it would only get harder with every subsequent assignment. So I'd love to hear from someone who pulled it off!

As a point of reference, I'll have 15 years service on my comissioning date.
