What do you mean by early Separation? Are you talking about temporary separation?

That is covered in section 12F of the PERSMAN.

CDR,

The PERSMAN describes a procedure in which the CO of an unit can allow a member to separate up to 30 days before the end of his/her commimtment to pursue educational opportunities. What I would like to know is if there is a similar program for officers.

If my resignation is approved by OPM for SEPT 01 but in order to take advantage of an educational opportunity I need to be out by AUG 01... could the CO release me early so I can take advantage of this educational opportunity?

Thanks.

PERSMAN -12.F. Temporary Separation
12.F.1. General
1. The Temporary Separation policy allows Coast Guard members to
temporarily separate and pursue growth or other opportunities outside the
service, while providing a mechanism for their return to active duty. The
long-term intent of this program is to retain the valuable experience and
training our members possess that might otherwise be lost. Under this
policy, career oriented officers and enlisted members are allowed a onetime
separation from Active Duty for up to two years to either:
a. Discharge parental responsibilities to care for newborn children
(CNC), or
b. Allow members to pursue personal interests that are restricted by
continuing on active duty, i.e., education.
2. Personnel who already have an approved separation date may request,

but then again if it only a difference of 30 days, won't your terminal leave cover that?

Thanks Mr. B,

I was reading para. 2 as - even if you have a separation approve, you can request temporary separation.

I dont think there is anything like the early separation for enlisted.

Thanks!
