In the spring of 1961 the command at sea insigne was established, following the adoption of that insigne in the U.S. Navy. A description in an old issue of the "Reservist Magazine" gives a description like the illustration. Different from the current insignia. Anyone recall when the change was made ??
The command ashore insignia came about in 1977 or '78
I don’t think that prototype was ever used. The first one I saw in 1961, 1962 was worn by an old CHBOSN. As near as I can remember it looked like the one I wore in 67 that is still in use.
I was pasting together from the written description in the Reservist mag. It went, to the effect, a silver shield superimposed on anchor flukes and encircled by an unfurled commission pennant. When I checked the USN info from Feb 1961, it described their insigne as a gold star, superimposed on anchor flukes and encircled by an unfurled commission pennant.
Taking a stab at it, when the similarity with the Navy insignia was noted, change 2 went into motion.
If any were made, would make a nice little collection item.
