I have a qucik question about becoming an officer while being enlisted active duty. The question is about dependents. Is there a maxium amount of dependents you can have to go from enlisted active duty to a commissioned officer active duty. I was planning on doing the PPEP but was concerned about the dependent requirement. Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks for the help.

One of my OCS classmates had 4 kids... I have never seen a set number of dependents as a disqualifier for OCS..

I'm almost positive there is a dependent limit for PPEP though.

College credits are college credits. Why would you need to use them if you are an E-5 w/ 4 years in? You already have met the requirements.

for OCS you have to be an E5 and have completed 30 credit hours including a math class. that is only if you dont already have a college degree. if you went to college before joining and have a degree then your requirements would be just an E5 with I believe a total of 5 years active duty to qualify for OCS.

Yes as long as they are from an accredited college or university.

From the CG recruiting website:

quote:
Educational Qualifications:

Reserve Commission Applicants must be in their senior year or hold a baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Temporary Commission Applicants (active duty Coast Guard personnel E-5 and above with at least four years of active duty in any Armed Forces) must have a baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university, or 25th percentile scores on general CLEP exams, or have completed at least one year of college (30 semester or 45 quarter hours) at an accredited college or university. Temporary Commission Applicants must also have completed one college-level math class or pass the general math CLEP exam. Contact your unit Educational Service Officer for additional information.

I believe that an enlisted member with a bachelors degree can apply as a Reserve Commission applicant before they reach the rank of E-5 or accumulate four years of active service. I could be wrong on that one though. I vaguely recall sitting on an OCS board for an E-4 about 6 or 7 years ago.

Reserve is open to enlisted with a BA/BS anytime once they are in or as a civillian with a BA/BS. There are non-rates that come in solely to go to OCS and get picked up for OCS once in. Of course, with command endorsement.
