Yesterday my local USSVI “base” was having our yearly summer SubVets picnic. We always hold it at a park near our local municipal airport. We were treated to an impromptu air show by a 5 A/C flight of F/A-18 Hornets who came screaming into the Class “D” airspace right at about 200 feet and right at 199 knts. They then did the typical 360 degree break to circle and land. As they came in left base to final what struck all of us was that they had a blue and gray paint scheme and big red star on the vertical stabilizer which made them look like Russian Sukhoi SU-27s. They were only stopping for gas and 30 or so minutes later made a wonderfully loud and screaming departure to the east. Would these F/A-18s belong to, the current Naval Strike and Air warfare Center down at NAS Fallon, NV???

Most likely they belong to the aggressor squadron at Fallon which works with both the Air warfare center and for squadrons in training. They could also be part of the aggressor squadron at Nellis for Redflag but I don't think they have any 18s.

A google search revealed that VFA 127 was disestablished in 1996 and adversary duties transfered to VFC 13 which supposedly only flies F5's.

OOP's.....I did not check to see if they were still an active squadron.

Was the only patch I could find with a red star,so asked "could they have been".

I believe they may have been the Red Star Stunt Team.
They were at Oskosh this year.
They claim to be better than the Blue Angels.

Sorry Fearless, Those guys do all their flying in cyberspace. I don't believe they ever flew an actual military A/C in their life.

The unit in question is probabaly VFC-12 out of Oceana. They are a reserve aggressor squadron, and the only one that flies F-18's.
