No they are not,.....and if I remember right the Navy got out of that business in the early or mid fifties. I believe about 56. Someone else help me here, my memory isn't what it once was.
If the link does not work, try the below link and and scrool down to where it says "The Demise of LTA and a Possible Revival (Page 75 to back cover, 1.7 mb file, download as .pdf)" and open from there.
I was stationed in Lakehurst N.J. 58/60 and they were still flying then. ZP-3 and ZW-1 were 2 of the sqd. It was funny were they would come in for landing over the brks and you would hear their lines dragging over the roof.
You know the other day I was on "decklog.com" and I noticed those "Dirigible Wings". I thought they were "pilots" who had their wings pulled for some type of mishap or procedure violation. I really wasn't sure. Never seen them before. They must have been before my time (1978-1998) in the military.

I HAVE A ? IF SOMEONE ONE SAID THEY ARE A PILOTS CAPTIAN FOR THE NAVY WHAT WOULD THAT MEAN AND SORRY FOR BUTTIN IN IM AN EX COASTIE OR MAYBE U WONT ANSWER ME NOW LOL
Pilot's Captain? I think you are mishearing or misunderstanding what they are telling you. They're probably saying "Plane Captain." If sp that's an enlisted person who works on the flight line taking care of Naval aircraft. doing Daily, turnaround, and preflight/postflight inspections. They also do the servicing such as fueling and engine oil servicing. Also aboard ship they ride brakes and keep the aircraft secured. Any enlisted aviation rating from E-1 thru E-6 can be a Navy Plane Captain.
