Can anyone either guide me with their experience or by regulation as to what the requirement to wear Naval Aircrew Wings. I completed Aircrew School, Observer training, and was 3/4 of the way through my P-3 In-flight technician training when I was placed on a temporary medical retirement...(4 years long!) I have recently been found fit for duty and will be return to duty and I was wondering whether or not I'm authrorized to wear them. If I am not, am I authorized to wear the observer wings which are the same design but do not carry the "AC" lettering on the front. Thank you for all your help in advance!
If you completed the requirements for Naval Aircrew Wings, there would have been an entry made in your service jacket, look there. It sounds like you are preppering for a return to active duty; if it were me "Warfighter" I would report for duty without those wings.
If you were wearing whatever wings before then I would assume the fact that you can/were would have been documented in your record if in no other way than the title block on your evals IE ETC(PJ) I would say that if it is in your record (and not "in error") then it's in your record and you are authoized so wear them.
If I were to go back on AD I would be wearing mine!
You are not authorized to wear Naval Aircrew Wings until all your PQS requirements have been met including your IFT checkflight. Once you complete those requirements you will receive a certificate from Naval Personnel Command authorizing you to wear the wings. I'm not sure about the requirements for Observer wings.
That's pretty much what I thought. I just know that there were some circumstances where AW's going directly to the boat got their wings after observer class.

Thanks, Joe
BTW, at today’s Veteran’s Day parade my Submarineer Shipmate Bill, ETCS(SS)(Ret.), as always wore his USSVI vest with his Navy badges as follows, in the following order top to bottom. First his Enlisted Submarine Qualification badge (Dolphins), second his SSBN Deterrent patrol Pin with 2 silver starts and 6 gold stars and last but least his Aircrew badge. Bill has 3000+ hours as an AT in P2V Neptunes. He left Navy ASW aviation as an AT2. He was glad of his time in P2Vs but never looked back after getting into being a “Boat Sailor”…
BTW, last I heard carriers were ships, not “boats”…. Carriers, hmmmm…. just another big “Target”, no more no less….
