Wow! I used to know the answer to that, but that has been so long ago, heard it discussed, that I do not recall. We had an officer in one of my outfits that had orders to a carrier to be CAT and Arresting Gear officer. I remember him asking the same question because he was a pilot. But Dang! I can't remember what he was told for sure.

Aircrew Already get Hazard duty pay in the form of Aircrew pay. They aren't allowed to double dip. When you get back to shore, the aircrew still get their pay, but the maintenance people don't.(So long as the flight crew get their minimum 8 hours a month, if I remember right.) Wink

Well I know you can double dip when it comes to hazard pay because recon gets both dive and jump pay, I was just wondering if that applied to pilots because they are also part of the flight deck crew. how often are the mechanics actually direct and preform flight deck operations?

LSOs get flight/aircrew pay and Flight deck pay. As for the arresting gear and launch folks it would depend on their orders. They do get flight deck pay. As for aircrew pay it depends if their orders state duty involving flying or not. Usually these two officer positions are P-3 pilots so I don't believe they are involved in flying during their shipboard experience.

Thanks.
So basically it is good to be a Navy pilot in a combat zone.

Combat Pay, Flight Pay, Sea duty pay, and Flight Deck pay. not including BAH, and Base Pay. Talk about Bank. Big Grin

Rigger,
The rules on sea pay changed just a while back. For officers it used to be that until they had 3 years (total) time on the ship they did not get sea pay. It is still pretty low since the change until one hits the 3 year mark. Plus there is usually only 1 officer per squadron designated as the LSO who get flight deck pay. Plus all the pays are taxable.
