Basic Training |
Hey everyone,
I'm a MIDN 3/C in Naval ROTC and I just wanted to ask (for those who have had experience in Carrier Onboard Delievery) what the lifestyle is like? I know that COD units are mainly based in like CA or Norfolk but I know some are based in Italy. I know the aircraft isn't based on a boat so how does the community work? I doubt that you'd fly missions from Norfolk to the Persian Gulf land on a carrier and fly back. Do you get deployed to Italy or Japan or something, and then you fly missions to and from carriers? Also, If you get deployed to Italy or Japan (some satellite base) does family come with you? How does the community work from a family standpoint? if you deploy to a base like Italy do they come with you? or are CODs like any other Carrier based aviation unit where you don't see family for 6 or 8 months? Thanks! |

This is a little dated but I was in a C-2 community in the early 90's. We were base out of Sigonella at the time and would travel around to different countries following the ships. Usually 2 week dets at a time. Being stationed in Sicily families did come with us but not on the dets. I got to see a few countries while there but at the end of my 2 years the squadron was decommisioned. Not sure if there are anymore c-2 squadrons overseas.
Someone can probably get more up to date info but I would believe that now you would be deployed as the ship is but from what I understand the CODs are usually kept off the ship as much as possible to make room. I really enjoyed my time with the C-2 and wish there was a reserve squadron I good belong to in the community. |
