Hello All,

I've moved from California to Arizona for a new job, and would like to know how I can commence drilling again.

I'm authorized 3 authorized absensces and am down to my last AA. The problem is my new NOSC is not allowing me to join their NOSC by going IAP, which is fine, I don't want to be in IAP, I would much rather have a billet that will allow me to work within my rate, which is IT. So, I went and applied for 2 billets in CMS within the area, but when I go back to check the status after the detailers have made their decisions, there's nothing stating that I was denied or anything. The only billet that is showing is the billet where I do my two weeks per year.

I've contacted the detailer via email and she insists that the NOSC can recommend a billet for me, but when I asked one of the PSs, they keep giving me the run around and they are unwilling to place me in IAP or recommend orders for me. The upcoming CMS cycle has already started, but the detailers don't make their decision until the end of the month, and I don't want to risk getting an unexcused absence.

So my questions are, where do I go from here? Do I call my old NOSC and have them help me out in getting a billet at my new NOSC?

Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated.

I can't say that this will work or not, but I would look at contacting NIRR or SPAWAR or something along that line. I know that there are satellite units that are considered part of larger units all over the country (at least I know this was true for SPAWAR 4 years ago). Not taking anything away from the NOSC personnel, but ultimately you gotta look out for you. Take a look at the unit links on the reserve site and track down someone that can give you the info for what units exist where and the LCPO or LPO contact numbers. If nothing else, SPAWARSYSCOM is right there in San Diego...at the very least I would imagine you could call them.

There are plenty of Reservists who do not have billets at the NOSC they drill with and are cross assigned out to other units in the United States. See if you can keep your current billet at your old NOSC and drill with a unit at your new NOSC.

dallas996,

That's the billet that I'm applying for-- spawarsyscen in Arizona. This cms cycle is coming to a close and I have applied for this billet again. The thing is, when I logged into cms today, I did have comments related to my billet selections, and they basically said that I already have a billet back in California, which is true.

YNAng,

So I do have a billet in California, but how do I start drilling with my new NOSC even though my billet is in California? I talked to the PS1 at the NOSC, and I don't think that she knows what she's doing. I think she would have suggested that I drill with her unit if she knew this, but didn't. Why? Do I need to explain to her what the process is? I thought that was her job.

I'm going to contact my old NOSC tomorrow to see if they can help me out with this mess. I'll post an update.

Problem solved. I had to get CNRFC involved and needless to say there were some people that were upset that I went over their head. I got the billet that I wanted, but it seems as though I had to jump through so many hoops to get it. Thank you all for your help.

Good for you! Like I said, you are ultimately responsible for making things happen for your career when it comes to the USNR. That's not a knock to our Service, it's just the nature of the beast.

Even if you ticked off a few people, they will get over it. Ultimately, you got what you need to serve to the best of your ability, and they will move on to more important things than being mad at you.

Congratulations and Good Luck in your new billet!!
