Whenever I or my friends have to leave a place, we wish we could just take our whole neighborhood with us. The excitement of exploring new places races with the sadness over losing friends and the worries about finding new ones. But it all works out and in the end we all realize what a great life we live and what great experiences and memories we got to make along the way.
Sarah Smiley, what a lovely article you have written. I come from a long line of military, and though my parents left the service before I was even in Middle School, we still moved around a lot. I completely agree with you about military families. I was at the CDC at Landstuhl one day, and this little girl told me, "Well, I was BORN in Michigan, but I grew up in Turkey. Now I'm in Germany!"
This cracked me up, as she was maybe ten years old. But it's just that we lack the language to express things some people take for granted. Like the dreaded question, "Where are you from?" I HATE that question.
Anyways, best of luck to you and yours up in the land of ice and snow.
