I am seeing the same thing with my second son's high school graduation. There I was inviting all sorts of relatives to an after graduation cook-out at our house. It wasn't so much that my son knows them really well, instead it's that I felt that if the relatives traveled this far, they'd need supper. Well, in the mean time friends invited us to their get together. The thing is, my son isn't one of a 100 or more graduates; we homeschool and he is one of four graduating in a small but slick cap and gown ceremony. They share all the same friends. The families are all friends. Finally yesterday, just a few days before this ceremony, I've changed the plan. Three of the four grad families are gathering at one place and any relatives that travel are invited to join us there. After all, the friend families are our every-day family. The relatives may or may not even come. The every-day family will definitely be there.
