RE: http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,179829,00.html

Thanks for this article and the reminder about military families in need. As an ombudsman for a reserve unit, we have several members doing IA deployments and many of these families are not near a base and have little support from the general public. Most are probably too proud to ask for support but I know many could use it, especially during the holidays. Hopefully some of these bigger bases will remember to reach out to the reserve centers as well and offer support there too. I've yet to see it happen at the centers my husband has been attached to but maybe it does somewhere. Hopefully if someone knows a reservist family going through a deployment they will reach out to them and offer some support.

Again, thanks for the reminder and also wanted to say that I thought your articles on your support of McCain were well written and I am sorry if you didn't get more positive response to them.

Wow...what is Sarah trying to say about "active duty" families?? Like because she is an officer's wife that means she is more capable of providing a turkey for her family!!!! I am a enlisted wife....and I live in a 4100 sq ft house ( no we are not renting), my hubby and I both drive Benzs, are virtually debt free, and we have great credit. I have never gone on base to get a "free" anything for me or my family of 5. Sounds like she needs to get down off her throne and spend some time with us active duty wives to get a reality check.

Wow is right "13349462." If Smiley had said that enlisted families make a sufficient living someone would have complained about that too.

Why are you speaking for all enlisted people "13349462"? You are in the minority with your 2 benz and 4100 sqft house. Get off YOUR throne. From her bio, Smiley's husband IS active duty.

Accept the piece in the spirit it was written, to remind people to be thankful and to help others.

What is wrong with people? Do you just like being miserable and finding something wrong with everything?

What's with the hatred? For one, she didn't say "enlisted", she said active duty, for two, you may have it all sorted for yourself, but there are families out there who do need the extra help, and instead of being happy that someone takes the high road and just steps away from free stuff so others who need it more can have a go at it, you just judge and hate. So tell me, Mrs. Benz, what did YOU do for your community this year?

Sarah, thanks for the article, it should have made us all think about helping out others, sorry it didn't work so well with some, it did work with me...
