I always enjoy your articles and felt compelled to respond regarding your move to Maine. I grew up about 45 minutes from Bangor and lived in Bangor for a number of years. My family is currently stationed in Virginia and no longer acclimated to the winters in Maine, although we get homesick for them at Christmastime. Anyway, I just wanted to say the Bangor area is great and you have moved there at the best time of the year. You are in for a real treat because in a couple of weeks the leaves should be at their peak - "indian summa" we call it and it is by far the most beautiful season of the year. I am envious!
Where do Navy personel get stationed in Maine, or rather Bangor? Brusnwick NAS is closing and Winter Harbor group closed? Is he a recruiter, is he at the AFRC? I am so glad you can experience our wonderful state.
Well, my soldier is a member of the Maine Army National Guard, he is about to deployed to Afghanistan, second deployment in 3 years...12 months this time rather than 16 before...whew! I am spinning, but at least I can stay home, I don't have to pull up and move. Last time we had about 30 days notice, this time it will have been 7 months, I prefer the "get the word, pack, kiss kiss and go...." This has been a series of going off for 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 days, weekends, of training whereas before he went to Fort Bliss and trained for several months, I went to Texas spent his last week with him and away he went. I am not a good waiter BEFORE he goes, a great waiter after he is gone. Gosh I miss him already!

Oh! I forgot what I was going to say....Fall is lovely. We just had out Military Ball and it was a cool evening and I had a really awesome red strapless gown and a handsome soldier by my side. Maine is one of the best places to be, the nicest people, the best NG who have gone above and beyond the War On Terrorism. Welcome! Wlecome!
