WOW, Thank you for that. I sometimes forget how terrified most of us were for so long after 9/11. It felt as if the world was united from Palestine to Pakistan.
Your wittings reminded me of all that, that has now past us. Now days my mind is mostly occupied with the course of actions that we took and the reactions that war are now living with. The weeks following Sept 11th I new our life's would change for ever, but never did I expect all this. Tough times don't last, Tough people do! (for all the people of Planet Earth) |

I still have the image stuck in my mind. Many of you might have seen it, but seeing it for real is different. I saw it after we bombed Afghanistan and we first entered. It was a family of 5 children lying dead in the mud. Then we saw many more.
I was raised in Pakistan for a time because my father use to work in the Airlines. It was when we had President Ronald Reagan around 1981 I think. Back then we saw similar images and refugees in Pakistan telling us stories. I joined the Marines so I could stop such atrocities. My prayers are with all that have suffered. (Both, the ones that have good Media to help them remember and the ones that we will never know about) "Tough times don’t last, Tough People do! |

ummm.... the USS Eisenhower was parked in Newport News shipyard on September 11, 2001. She was most certainly not underway. I think we have a ship name error here.
I was sitting in a classroom in a floating accomodation facility in the drydock next to Ike. We were just chatting when one of my friends walked in and said a plane had hit one of the Trade Center buildings. I said it wasn't necessarily a big deal, unless it was an airliner. A DC-3 had hit the Empire State building shortly after it was built, and only damaged the floor it actually hit. Then someone else came in and said it had happened again. I mentioned the old saw about once being happenstance, twice coincidence, and three times enemy action. So far, we were just at coincidence, albeit a suspicious one. Then someone came in and said the Pentagon had been hit, and one of the Towers had collapsed. I made it to a TV just in time to watch the second tower fall, live. We heard that there was still one or two more airliners unaccounted for, and that they were sailing the entire Atlantic Fleet to get them where they could defend themselves. Except for us. We couldn't move, and we were in direct line-of-sight of the main harbor. MM1(Nuke) USS Dwight D Eisenhower CVN69 11JUN01-11JAN06 This message has been edited. Last edited by: orionhawk, |

I think she might have meant the USS Enterprise.
