"I'm very honored by Pastor John Hagee's endorsement today," McCain said at a news conference. "He has been the staunchest leader of our Christian evangelical movement in many areas, but especially, most especially, his close ties and advocacy for the freedom and independence of the state of Israel."
Pastor John Hagee, in his book "Jerusalem Countdown: A Warning to the World", writes (pages 92-92):
quote:
It was the disobedience and rebellion of the Jews, God’s chosen people, to their covenantal responsibility to serve only the one true God, Jehovah, that gave rise to the opposition and persecution that they experienced beginning in Canaan and continuing to this very day... Their own rebellion had birthed the seed of anti-Semitism that would arise and bring destruction to them for centuries to come... It rises from the judgment of God upon his rebellious chosen people.”
So, according to McCain supporter Hagee, anti-semitism is the fault of the Jews because of their "disobedience and rebellion to their covenantal responsibility". Anti-semitism is God's punishment on the Jews from being "bad". If they had "done the right thing" and had never left Israel/Palestine, there wouldn't be any anti-semitism.
McCain supporter Hagee continues, in his book "Jerusalem Countdown: A Warning to the World":
quote:
The fishermen come before the hunters. First, God sent the fishermen to Israel. These were the Zionists, men like Theodor Herzl who called for the Jews of Europe and the world to come to Palestine to establish the Jewish state. The Jews were encouraged to escape while there was still time. The situation for Jews in Europe would only get worse, not better.
A fisherman is one who draws his target toward him with bait. Herzl and his fellow Zionists were God’s fishermen, calling the sons and daughters of Abraham home. Herzl was deeply disappointed that the Jews of the world did not respond in greater numbers.
God then sent the hunters. The hunter is one who pursues his target with force and fear. No one could see the horror of the Holocaust coming, but the force and fear of Hitler’s Nazis drove the Jewish people back to the only home God ever intended for the Jews to have — Israel.
So, according to McCain supporter Hagee, God sent Hitler and the Nazis to scare the Jews back to Israel - and those Jews who refused to go to Israel deserved their deaths in the Holocaust for disobeying God and not voluntarily moving to Israel.
So, according to McCain supporter Hagee, Hitler, Himmler and those death camp guards who operated Dachau, Auschwitz, Treblina, etc, were actually doing God's work - killing off those Jews who defied God by not living in Israel.
Senator McCain - are you still "very honored by Pastor John Hagee's endorsement"?

One can have a complete understanding of something and still disagree with it.

I concur
Well, you can disagree with God, but he'll always be right.
The only way McCain can redeem himself on this one would be the following public statement (or something quite similar):
"I made a mistake. After reading his writings and listening to his sermons, I have realized what a bigot he is and I emphatically renounce him and his endorsement of my campaign. I would rather lose the Presidency than have his support."
I doubt if he would have the courage to do so, however.

Of course it may well be that Pastor Hagee is the one in disagreement with God. It's not like there is a universal consensus that his view is the one that is absolutely correct.

Won't argue with that.
I CAN, however, disagree with the self righteous thumpers that claim to speak for God and have been proven wrong on more than one occassion.

Let us get some truth into this matter. John Hagee does not praise Hitler nor does he justifies the Holocaust. If you had any knowledge of John Hagee you would know that he loves Isreal and the Jewish people he also knows the history of the Jewish nation and thier place with God and the Bible. He is not like the closet Muslim that is running for President that hates the Jewish nation and white people in generally. check out the church he attends and its feelings of the Jewish people. It is sad when someone makes statements they know nothing about.
