Advisers to both men say they do not expect Obama to consider McCain for a position in his administration, as he is with former primary rival Hillary Rodham Clinton for secretary of state. But he'd like to have McCain as a partner in the Senate on legislation they both have advocated on the campaign trail, like climate change, earmark reform and torture.

[Moderator hat off]

All in all, the rhetoric toward each other was "politics". I don't think there is any hatred between them.

In all honesty, I think it would be best for the country for Senator McCain to use his influence in the Senate to further some of the initiatives (renewable and alternative sources of energy, climate change, etc) when President-Elect Obama takes office.

Obama NEEDS McCain, just like America needs McCain, McCain should be the President Elect not the one who is dependent on other people like Hillary Clinton to get the job done...This is a sad time, America is expected to lower expectations for Obama which is absurd Frown ...I truly hope McCain only helps America and not the one who insulted him and all of us Repubs over the past 2 years, and since McCain is out of touch, and McCain is to old, and McCain can not even send an e-mail, what can Obama truly get from him??? If he truly wants bipartisanship or any respect, McCain is the much needed key, of which McCain should hold firm with our small minority and tell Obama gently off, which I am sure he will in a respectful manor since I am sure there is NO love there between the two! Smile

My guess is that Senator McCain has already adjusted to his loss better than you have. I expect he will work with the new President on the issues they basically agree on.

I think they both have a good sense of humor, they will let the past go and I know McCain will always come through when it comes to America.

I don't blame Obama for wanting to have McCain on his side, do you?

And I don't blame McCain for wanting to help Obama if it means helping American, do you?

There is nothing unusual about this, a President-elect meeting with his defeated opponent a short time after the election:

President elect George W. Bush meets with Vice President Al Gore at the Naval Observator December 19,2000 in Washington, DC.

John McCain has always put America first and will continue to do so. Obama needs John McCain's experience, determination and foreign policy experience because he has none.

Keep believing that if you want, but McCain is needed by the Dems if they truly want bipartisanship!

Smile I pray they come together because both appreciate the damage done by the reactive neo- conservative administration of Bush/Cheney. There is more common between these two patriots than almost any other time in American history.

If it is to be, it is one more indication that God blesses America.
