I got my TWIC through the Albany, NY office. Pre-enrolled, went, got done very quickly. But, it took 6 weeks to get the e-mail for pick up. I found this strange as the issue date on the card was 10 days after enrollment.

I was working at a facility on the Delaware River. The security guy would not except the TWIC as ID. H knew what it was, but, his boss required a d/l for ID.

As for TSA I use my MMD all the time. I get some strange looks, but, it is excepted. As for the TWIC, look at it, would you except it as ID? Maybe when they get the readers out there, but, I am not holding my breath.

Well, if you have it, they sould accept it as a valid ID. But then again, the majority of those involving facilities that have somewhat of a grasp are FSO and CSOs. Not too shocking that a security guard didn't recognize it or know much at all about TWIC.

As we get closer to turning the "switch" on, deck plate level security guards not only will be required to accept it but know how to identify the anti-fraud markings on the card.

I had my TWIC activated today. I enrolled on February 29. Less than one month total to complete the process.

Have you checked the status online?
https://twicprogram.tsa.dhs.gov/TWICWebApp/StatusCheckPrep.do

I've heard that 6-8 has been the average. Probably going to get a lot worse as Sept 25 nears.

No problem. I'm trying like hell to assist where I can as I know this card is very unpopular.

Didn't they push the Sept 25 date back to something like 2009?

Anywoo, I got my TWIC. Is the world a safer place?

So, how much will this dumb a$$ card set me back?

Renewing your license is not a cheap proposition any more... (which I did last August)

My understanding is the $105 card is offered to military personnel. I believe that card expires once your current license/MMD expires.

If your license or MMD is about to expire you're going to end up costing yourself more money because you'll have to get a new TWIC.

Regardless, can you really put a price on security?? Roll Eyes

That is correct. If you just renewed your license, the discounted TWIC is worth it. If you're coming up in a year or two, I'd say its better to pay the full price and get the guaranteed 5 year.

Got mine this past March. I was waiting in the pool at NS Norfolk to get FFD and had plenty of time on my hand. Me and two other guys drove over to the TWIC office in Chesapeake and were processed as standbys in about two hours for all three of us. Got an e-mail about two weeks later and went back and waited another two hours and was done.

I scheduled an appointment for the intial date but got everything done about two weeks before my appointment was due.

Also, if you're renewing your MMD and all you need is fingerprints, the TWIC offices can do that since they work for the Department of Homeland Security. A friend of mine just drove up to New York last week to get his renewed and was told the TWIC office in Chesapeake could have done it for him. He wasn't a happy camper and gave the Commandant in New York a piece of his mind also, so he says.

I opted for the full price because I didn't want to get stuck in the situation of having to get both these things renewed at the same time.

The $105.00 option is for those who have valid MMDs and want to match the dates. Being ex-military has nothing to do with it unless they already have MMDs which is highly doubtful unless they're in the inactive reserves and have a merchant job.
