Looking for some input from those folks intimately familiar with Licensing issues. I hold an upper level deck license, and an AB unlimited MMD. Problem is, they expire 2.5 years apart. I suspect that the reason for this is that my license was issued 2.5 years after the MMD, and the expiration date of the MMD was not changed to match the license exp. date due to the date of my DOT physical. Seeking input on how to get the two credentials in sync. I really dont wont to pester NMC or my local REC at this point, but I need to start planning ahead for my next renewal. Appreciate all input.

Have you looked at the FAQs at the National Maritime Center's web site? The answers to your questions may be there.

You can renew a license or MMD a year before expiration. That would eventually bring the expiration dates closer together.

I would consider leaving the expiration dates as is due to the expense involved when all are due to be renewed at the same time.

My MMD, Master's, Radar, Radio, and TWIC all are close in expiration dates. It will be expensive.

You would be wise to get opinions from a REC.

Agree with Ray. The rules of the game keep changing and it's best to get the most current policy from the REC or the Nat' Maritime Center.

Which ever document expires first, ask for both to be renewed. So if your license is about to expire also ask to renew your MMD and your STCW at the same time. Since it is now after April 15, 2009 you will only have to pay one evaluation fee and one issuance fee because you are only going to get one credential that has all the information in it. It will look like a passport, but don't try and use it as a passport.
