Hello,
My father served in WW 2 in Europe. He started out with the Med Det 263rd C Engr. 63rd Bn Div (Surg. Tech 861 he saved 7 of his buddies due to his use of Army Intel and his fluent German. It was dark at night when my dad and his friends came into contact with a lg. gp. of enemy soldiers. My father spoke to the Commanding officer and said that he was on an important mission and had to cross the Amer. lines. I have a copy of the article. He also went on a spkg tour with the late Harold Russell who starred int he movie "It's A Wonderful Life." They spk about demolition/explosives and also about the needs of disabled veterans. If anyone remembers him or Harold Russell, please contact me. Many Blessings, |

If you are speaking about Harold Russsell that lost both hands in an explosion - the name of the movie was "The Best Years of Our Lives". Later on in life due to his wife's illness, he sold the "Oscar" he had won as he said his wifes health was more important to him than the Oscar and he needed the money to pay medical bills. He lived in Massachusetts after the war. Sgtleo |
