Just found out we are leaving Germany and heading to Ft Bliss. We have some months before we have to be there but I like to get as big a head start as I can on finding out what I can expect with our new duty station. So, if anyone reading this can give me a little bit of a heads up I would appreciate it. I'm an Army brat and I'm from TX so I dont expect a big culture shock but I have never been that far west- I'm from Killeen/Ft Hood. I hope to hear from someone soon. Have a great Easter weekend!! Feel free to contact me via this forum or here: Melswifey2u@yahoo.com

to those coming to bliss....welcome.....there is nothing wrong with this area...i live on post next to kelly park which is nice......there is alot to do out here in EP.....so it all depends on what you want to do......as for housing the wait list is really not long, when your sponser is here have them come to housing and tell them what you need and they will help, my wife did that and we got a house in less then a month....but house hold goods took longer....lol...there are alot of people leaving here either etsing or transfers....one major command is moving to ft sill so thats why alot of housing is coming up....there are 3 or 4 military housing areas off post too and most of them are brand new....like someone said earlier you have to hound balfour betty to get work done, but they do get it fixed.....yes the houses are older and i find nothing wrong with them at all....as stated earlier they are redoing the housing and Red Bricks is one of the housing areas they are redoing completly inside and out, these are the 2br units w/basements for lower ranks E-3 and below...they are installing new roofs on the houses on the rest and installing new appliances too.....they are also repainting the outside of the homes too....as said there is plenty to do.....but J-town is off limits as is for mexico too; per base commander.....there are plenty of parks for the kids to play in and 3 pools too.....3 or 4 gyms cant remember the exact number that you can use...the px and commisary is nice and conveiant to use....they are building a new popeyes and burger king on post....also someone said they saw brown grass in the housing area, well it is now green from the rain we have been having around here....but you can water your yard and have green grass or you can forget about water and not worry about any grass if you like that, its your choice....if you have any questions feel free to ask....here aer some web sites to help..

I know these are old posts. I was wondering about the schools in the area. That is a big concern for me. We would be living off post i keep seeing Deridder-is that a nice place to rent a house? I would be interested in elementary schools. Thanks for info.

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.

My son goes to an elementary school off post. We havent had any trouble at all. He has a really good teacher, and seems to be doing well. There is a school liason office on post that can really help you in deciding on good areas for schools. I would start there. That is what I did.

Thanks everyone for that info. My hubby has been in the Army a few years now and i have to say i have never heard of a school liason office. We've never lived on post so that may be why. What do they do there?

I know whatever house your zone is is where your child goes to school. I am hoping to get a good school district and find a house in that zone if that's the way el paso does it. We have been pretty lucky here near Ft. Hood so hopefully our luck will hold. Do either of u have a phone # for the school liason office? We are going to try to ck out the area somewhere end of Dec when hubby is home from his deployment. Thanks for all info.
