if he gets accompanied orders to A school and you choose to not go:

he CANNOT live in the Barracks

He CANNOT live in military family housing.

he WILL NOT get Family Separation allowance

BAH wil be based on where HE is, not his family. he will need to provide for two households on one BAH.

Don't think so because of this ...

The tone of this post actually indicates that he is, maybe, reporting to boot camp in April and then will head to NPS in Charleston. I'm not sure if NPS is long enough for accompanied orders. One of the nuke types can answer that. If not, then you will receive BAH (rental assistance) at your current zip code for the duration of NPS.

After that, he will go to prototype at Ballston Spa, NY. I'm pretty sure that is accompanied. At that time you will be expected to move with him. Everything stated above holds true if you don't move with him once he gets accompanied orders.

Power school and A school are both accompanied (there are 3 schools in total for enlisteds). The entire time is spent in SC.

Everything Mrs Posted will therefore hold true.

OP-understand your husband will have VERY long school hours there.

there are 2 prototypes (lovingly referred to as "float-o-types" as they really arent prototypes but converted subs) in Charleston. You find out a few weeks before graduation from power school where you are going.

But yes, those are accompanied as well.

ok i just honestly dont want to go with him down there. he will be very busy no time for family and we are already having problems. if he gets accompanied orders when do we go? do we go right away when he gets there or is there a time limit we have to be there by? and he is going to boot camp april 6 and then to charleston for nuke school. we are just honestly thinking about separating right now and just was not sure what to do as far as going with him and staying here and how that would work. thank you guys for your input

within 30 days of him getting to Charlkeston you can move down there.

If you do not.. might as well get diviorced because the relationship will not survive if you don't try. and by staying put you are basically telling him you have no interest in supporting him while he is in school.

yes he wil have many long hours in class and he will NEED you to be there for him.. and soemtimes.. being there physically is just as important if not more so than just being there in spirit.

you CANNOT fix your marriage if you are not working on it TOGETHER in proxinmity.

more likely within 2 weeks. They want families moved in before the sailor starts classes. It's easierr that way.

you guys have a few months to work on your marriage before he goes......and you need to WORK on it if you honestly want it to work.

Yes school is hard, but there is still time for family. There are long weekends, breaks, leave periods. You dont live in the school, just pseudo-live there. If all the time was spent in school there would be almost no attrition because no one would be have time to do stupid stuff to get in trouble.

thanks for yalls input. there are just some things that i wont tolerate and they have not changed at all. i think it would be a good thing if we seperate and let him work on the things he needs to. can i not wait till after "A" school to move down there if i decide to go?

You can, but at that point it's on your dime and you lose a lot in the way of money. They will force him to live in the barraks and he will get no BAH for you.

But do what you think is best for you.
