This is the excerpt from a message that just came out, so the question is when we went from our legacy rating whatever that may have been and became OS's did we receive reimbursement for our uniform items? I don't remember getting a single penny for any uniform items as a result of the rating change. Confused

It's not the 2 Dollars as much as it is the principal of the fact. Why should they get any money for their patch when they get the same uniform allowance that we get?

Yes, everyone who was rated, but not an RD, prior to JRR got reimbursed for the cost of their new rating badge. I was on both the JRR team and the IS team and was one of the folks that push to make sure this happened, both times.

And the principle is that they were required to change their badge, so we are required to pay for it. The uniform allowance is 'already spent' on recurring maintainance, not on having to change out a 'just fine' badge.

When I had to switch patches - the "exchange" (poor excuse for one) here in New York didn't have one. Nada. Zilch. Zip. Zero.

I asked them to order them - even pointed out in the Vanguard catalog exactly the one we needed.

A month later... nada, zilch, zip. Oooh, they should be here in a week. OK cool.

Two months later... nothing.

WTF? I inquire politely. Our bravo inspection is coming up in like 3 weeks.

Oh - those patches are no longer made.

Um... what? Nevermind!

So me and a mate had to drive our happy asses down to Woodbine NJ where I purchased a box of OS patches (for about $20?) so I could give them out to some folks here that weren't able to get them.

Joline - I can understand your concern - after all, during JRR we did only give you about three weeks heads up that you would require a new patch.

My concern wasn't the inspection - it was our useless exchange. That was the point of my little story.

I'm on the same page as you on this one. I was stationed in Charleston when the merger happened and the exchange on base didn't have any patches either, nor did they really have much of anything in the uniform department. They never seemed to care very much if people needed a unit ballcap or uniform items, however, if they ran out of Wild Turkey or Rolling Rock, they'd have that placed stocked up so quickly it would make your head spin! The CG Exchange in Kodiak was probably the best I've seen in regards to stocking uniform items.

This (HQ) is the first non-afloat unit I have been at that even had an exchange for my entire tour. Sad to say - no booze at this one! Big Grin

Don't waste your time at the Exchange for uniform items. Instead set up an online account w/ the UDC and order directly from them. The cost is cheaper and you'll rcv it in less than a week.

Amen to that! With the exception of a couple of ribbons you can get almost anything. Even a handy dandy scarf!

Oh that works now. When the rate merged though - at the time there was no online ordering
