By law, you may work no more than 744 hours a month. It is actually a criminal offense punishable by huge fines and prison. So - if you know of anyone exceeding those limit, please let me know. You can even do it anomously! I will pursue the charges!

It applies to leap year also. Now - section 201 of the law does mention increased penalties if the law is violted in February of a leap year.

As far as doing 4 12hr watch's then 2 days off and 4 more 12hr watch's.

I feel your pain. Is there a law saying you can't stand 2 months of watch without going home Violin

Just kidding. I had somethinglike that in Alaska. It really messes up your sleep Angry Whip

No, there is no maximum for how many watches they can have you stand. There is a maximum for how many days you can have off. That is: Regular liberty is a period, not to exceed three days, commencing at the end of the
normal working hours on a given day and expiring with the start of normal working
hours on the next working day.

you would think fatigue would come into play at some point with out have enough time off to rest in between watches.

I answered your question the way I did on purpose. Supervisors DO take those things in to account and do what they can based on the number of qualified people they have to do the job, but there is no MAXIMUM they can use you. There is good common sense, based on many things you may not know about, that drives some of their decisions.

This one time on a big white needle of death, I had the hilarious pleasure of 7 months underway. Wow I guess I would have traded that for a couple months of straight watches at the time. You still got to go home and kiss your loved ones in between watches right? Perspective is such a wonderful thing.

Well, the OS gods must have looked favorably upon you now (district one). However, this is the "It sucked for me and should then suck for you" attitude that is negatively affecting junior personnel in the Coast Guard.

You and some other are percieving the attitude incorrectly. I don't recall him saying it sucked. Saying you ain't got it bad doesn't translate to to "it sucked for me." Providing a realistice perspective of the person current situation is just that. Lets look at the real numbers. If you have any more than 4 qualified people in a rotation, you are working for less that 40 hours of work. 24 * 7 = 168 hours in a week. 4 people would get 42 hours a piece. Call it 45 or so with relief times. Any more than 4 people in the rotation and it drop to about 36 hours a week.

MC,

Can you clerify if you are talking about miliguy or Waylander. The way I am percieving miliguy is he is asking a simple question. But Waylander decided to take the question and try and make the person look as if it was a complaint and try and show him that he doesn't have the worse life in the CG..

We are pretty close. The hair on the back of my MC neck makes me think there is a chance that milguy was hunting for a way to back up his complaints. I left the chance open that he may be looking for a way to tell other whiners at his unit to shut their pie hole.
