Good luck shipmate.... Never know what they are going to throw in the exam this year so study everything. Don't burn yourself out studying though, you will do just fine. Lets hope they will continue to be so generious with cuts for us.....

I have said this before, but I'll say it again. Your best bet is to 'study' on the job, not just at night. What do I mean by that? First off, make sure you are working as an OS and not a TC, RD, QM, etc. As an OS1 afloat ready to test for OSC, you should be qualified to stand EVERY OS watch from CIC Sup on down through Comms. Same thoughts apply ashore. Once you got that, make every effort to be 100% certain you are doing things right, every day. If you are ~90% certain you are about to do the 'correct' thing, then look it up so that you are 100%! Do the same for those working with or for you. If you see a person with a questionable uniform or grooming issue, look up the rules and fix the issue (if it was actually wrong.) If it comes up on the SWE, you'll smile and say "I had to deal with that just last week!"

Good Luck, even though this is a competition amongst fellow OS1's for the higher paygrade. Knowing my luck, I score much better on this SWE, and I make it of a May07 revision. |

Rgr that MC....
the 2 hr studying im speaking of is referencing things that i do not do on a normal basis....such as knowing heights of bushes in an exclusive area and clear zones....plus being away from a sector for 2 yrs..just brushing up on all that info as well. One thing i also do when looking at subordinates that may not be groomed/dressed properly. I of course look it up if i do not know it....and once i counsel them on it i also have them go look it up and get back with me on what manual and chapter said discrepency was in...so that way i know they fully understand |

.....try this. When they get back to you ask them "what else did you learn when you were looking that up that you didn't know before?" Little bells may then go off in their brain realizing that good things happen when they look stuff up.........

Masterchief, you could not have said it any better. Now that this rate is so broad, it sure does help to have worked with almost all aspects. I can just recommend to all to not just study pub's, but its the day to day work situations a First Class should be encountering.
Oh yeah, Kev quit your whining and go field day forward sewage. |

ok, im sure im gonna get the answer i dont want...but i will ask anyhow.
I am trying to get an idea of the questions on last SWE for tacwarops, le and radar. THose are the only ones i do not remember for some reason. Cause as everyone knows...the MLEM manual is pretty darn thick and trying to browse through it is rough. OS1 H. |

Jade,
Take a look at NWP 5-01 for Tacwar Operations. I found some great information studying the good old RM2 study guide..... Hope that helps you, good luck. OS1 C. |

Check your safes, you may be able to find an old RD1 pub. I studied that last year, although if I remember correctly, I should have spent more time in it.
I wish good luck to all... |

Edited.....
Thanks all.... If i remember correctly i believe the 270's were billeted for only one RD of which was a chief. IF at best an RD1. The chief and i have been through every safe/cabinet known to man over the past 2 yrs and show no RD booklets onboard. What is an OS1 to do? I will have access to talk one on one with some Navy OS's; do any of you think thier course material may have this info in it? In ref to the Classified OS PQG???? Im at a loss on that one. I dont want to throw anyone under the bus, yet i asked two certain individuals on my ship and they havent heard of that either. Can you enlighten me on this one?? OS1 H. This message has been edited. Sure. Ask those two individuals how they: A) got their OS1 EPQs signed off or B) How they signed off other peoples EPQs. You ARE NOT ALLOWED to sign off/get signed off any EPQ without going through the associated PQG. You will discover that the old OS1 EPQs were not completely covered by the unclassified PQG. If you have more questions, you can look at ALCOAST 459/05 This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mightyz90_93, |

%#$*, i feel like an idiot now.
Looking at the new EPQ's, do not show any Intel and RD info. So when i get a few new OS2's this transfer season and they order thier OS1 course material; this classified pamphlet will no longer be required. As far as not having one of these currently onboard, is there a way i can get a copy via sipr and or does anyone have any classified notes on this pamphlet that they could send on the high side? Since we are not ISs or RDs, that makes perfect sense. They are OS EPQs. You may want to look at 4.B.07 and 5.B.01. Back 'in the days', who do you think did those things? Surely not QMs, ETs, BMs or TCs. Look at all of the "Bs". TCs would not have been doing those things in the past. RDs, QMs and BMs would have been. Don't count out class material for the course yet. If we need it to teach the EPQs, we will use it. Also, the PQG is still required, so they will still need to order it (Class and unclas). If there is not a copy of the OS1 class pamphlet at your unit, you should immediately follow the instructions of ALCOAST 459/05. |

What, no gossip about having taken the OSC SWE?
What did you all think of it? I myself was more prepared this year than last. How do you all think you did? I believe i did fairly good (yet normally when you think you did good....you actually didnt and when you came out thinking you did bad...you actually did great) |
