con·sid·er·a·tion

Pronunciation Key - [kuhn-sid-uh-rey-shuhn]

noun
1. the act of considering; careful thought; meditation; deliberation: I will give your project full consideration.
2. something that is or is to be kept in mind in making a decision, evaluating facts, etc.: Age was an important consideration in the decision.
3. thoughtful or sympathetic regard or respect; thoughtfulness for others: They showed no consideration for his feelings.
4. a thought or reflection; an opinion based upon reflection.
5. a recompense or payment, as for work done; compensation.
6. importance or consequence.
7. estimation; esteem: He is held in great consideration by the community

Just a thought on what consideration means. I didn't see "given one their way or choice"

Everyone is given consideration for their billets. If they weren't we wouldn't ever submit an e-resume with CHOICES on it.

In my career so far the dream sheet was just that, billets I dreamed I would get. To date I have never gotten anything off my dream sheet, not once. I am not complaing about it all some of it was due to co-location, some of it was due to advancement. So when Junior Petty Offiers ask me, what should I do on my dream sheet, oh do I get the detailer to give me what I want. My answer to them is, I am reallllllly the wrong person to ask, I am still trying to figure it out!!

I could say that too. Actually - one time I got something on my ADC, then I got there and the place got changed from Group Monterey to Station and I was required to depart 2 1/2 years early!

That said, all of the jobs were decent jobs that I got and made sense with what I put on the eresume.

It is not easy to figure out what to put on an eresume. It really is not a dream sheet, but in actuality, a resume. Let me just use you for a second, silly. Did you make sure that when you filled out an eresume, that yours and your spouses aligned well? To make a colo work well, the safest bet is to find two billets (one for each) that are maybe not the most desirable, within a distance that you can live with (and that meet 8H standards of course).

Probably the best thing to tell those junior POs is that they need to give the AO reasonable options. Spread out the unit types, spread out the locations. Also let them know - it really isn't about 'giving them what they want.' It is more about trying to meld Needs of Service and desires of the member, with the primary arguement, needs of the service.

Master Chief,

As far as my co-lo my wife and I always put billets together that had open spots for the best of us. I have to say the detailer never srewed us as a married couple so i was pretty happy with that, we never got anything we asked for as a couple that was on our sheet but they always find some place to put us both, never got what we wanted but we wanted to stay together so we took what we could. As for my Junior Petty Officers, you basicly said everything I tell them. I just always start out with the joke, I don't know I never got anything off any dream sheet I put in, usually gets a laugh, then a solitary tear runs down my cheek!! Smile

the one time I actually got to "pick" a billet (i was priority 2 at the time) I ended up hating it. it Was my first choice and I had always wanted to go there. Spent the next 2 years fighting my way out of a hole.

Everyplace I've really liked, was basically picked for me by the detailer.

So now we change our profile to become private. I guess if you didn't have something to hide or worry about you would not have changed it. At least you have learned to try and CYA.

I like horses… sorry I just wanted to add something really dumb to the worlds worst topic. I don’t believe there is another topic we could discuss that would draw more negativity and anger then this one has. Beer

I knew when I saw the title of this thread, that it would go for about 3 or 4 pages at least.

The thing is... We all already saw your married name and or your maiden name so why delete your profile as if this thread never happened?

I'm fairly certain all relevant questions to the initial post have been answered. Maybe it's time to lock this thread?

First off, i am divorced to another memeber, and we have a daughter together. For now, we are stationed together but have accepted the fact that it is inevitable we will get stationed apart during the next transfer season. It is going to be tough not being able to see my daughter as much as i do now, but all we can do is work it out the best we can.

That being said, i feel bad for this OS3. I am a first class myself, and one thing i have grown to hate in the Coast Guard are the "OMG WE ARE IN THE MILITARY SO STFU AND BE MISERABLE" people. I can not stand to see people who are dedicated members of the Coast Guard being told by thier OS1 to "deal with it" as the only solution to thier situation. Are these really the people who we should look up to as leaders?

I have the honor and privlidge to say that i work at a command where we do anything we can do help people out in situations like the one this young OS3 just mentioned. Not because we have too, but because its just the right thing to do. I honestly believe that all commands should take a carful look at personal situations such as is and if it is indeed within thier power, try and accomedate it the best they can. But, hey, thats just me.

I'll give this post 1 hour before someone replies with a publication link or a reminder of "HOW ACCORDING TO THIS ARTICLE BLAH BLAH BLAH WE ARE MILITARY ROAR!".

I'll agree with this one statement. What you don't seem to get is the definition of "..within their power..."

It is not within a command's power to accomadate one person, to ANY detrimant of another person, for some of the reasons mentioned above. There are limited personnel issues which allow SHORT TERM accomadations. The key is short term, and in defined limited issues.

I hate to simplify, but I think that beyond the "rules and regs" side of the house, all that needs to be considered by this member is cause and effect. For every action there is an and opposite reaction. Never expect anything from this job, you get out what you put in. Hopefully you get yourself and your situation straightened out, and I hope the best. I just hope that the void that is created in the watch sked dosen't affect your shipmates to much.
