Good to hear (or read). I have also "heard" that if I made OS1 out of Juneau, it would be harder for me to get an u/w billet.

VERY VERY true.

Only kind of true. Since you wrote 'out of Juneau', I would have to say making OS1 there is better than making OS1 someplace else. That said, for the people rotating this summer, the only OS1s who PUT IN A E-RESUME IAW PUBLISHED GUIDELINES and did not get themselves a ride, where the two with the lowest total marks score. They were BOTH priority 5s. So, as long as you have a reasonable e-resume, submitted on time, as a pri 4, you should have little to no problems getting a ride. Now, there will be a few less rides to choose from, but you will still get a ride.

Just using the numbers of E-6s underway vice E-5's as a guide MC Wink

Only 1 OS1 on 210's, 2 on 270's and 2 on 378 (not counting the new NSC, maybe you could advise how many are on there), and the 179's. Not that many imho considering not everyone of them is rotating next summer.

Ya got me Confused The ones I've seen have two but it's probably because a billeted 2nd class made 1st. Like I said, 270 isn't my thing. How many Chiefs are on there?

OS2,
The Tahoma in Portsmouth, NH is about one hour from Boston and we have female racks available(ATM). You could even have my job if you wanted to pipeline EW. Big Grin (I'm due to x-fer in '09 and currently the only EW O/B, we also have another OS leaving in '09) The Up/down side to Tahoma is we will be entering our MEP period in '09 so people transfering in will be spending some time dockside and qualifying during a crew swap(rumor has it on the Cambell). Our patrols are often things other than D1 suprisingly.

MC,

I agree with Jade. You outta take a trip out there to check on the 270's. Its jacked. The worst part is that a couple cutters are still "seperated" and aren't training their people in Radio AND CIC and standing watches in both. Some still have a completely different JO for a "COMMO" and another for a "CICO". I wish HQ would have done a follow up after the merger and have the cutters provide to HQ exactly what their training plan after the merger was and who runs what now, and what exactly was combined, ehos standing watch where, how long it took to train each person in both shops o/b for each platform.

270's aren't the only one's that have different JO's for CICO and COMMO. It's becoming increasingly difficult to cross train due to the heavy turn over coming up next year. CIC can't afford to lose anyone to stand any watches in radio being 1 in 3. Radio is also having a huge turnover so we're trying to get some OS' experienced over here as well. I completely agree that there should have been a follow up.

Something needs to be promulgated and sent to the fleet providing the ships with training information and what's expected and order them to abide ( I know thaty I'm going to get a "But you have" answer but in all reality we really haven't. Leaving this in the commands lap is a bad idea . The Coast Guard should be WELL into crosstraining right now. It's been a while since the merger. I know a lot of other ships are feeling the pain also.

Is there anything in the works for this?

If I were you I would try to get a 270 on the right coast and not a 378 on the left coast. I would much rather be doing a winter patrol in the Caribbean instead of being in the Bering shooting the latest season of Deadliest Catch. And I would have to say I would much rather be in Virginia Beach and not in Seattle or Alameda.

OK, read about competencies assigned to billets and the 'master training' list changes.
