OK, I got multiple calls recently asking about the OS EPQs and whether or not they are required for SWE competition. I am a bit floored that I got one call, much less several! Heck yes, the EPQs must have been done prior to the deadline! The only thing waiver is the COURSE. Senior folks at the unit need to know this and be checking EVERY PERSON, EVERY TIME for EVERY SWE! If you are in a leadership position, and you are not certain that everyone who took the SWE had their EPQs done, have them produce the signed EPQs or remove them from the list. If erroniously advanced w/o having them done, well, life sucks for you and them. You got to do the right thing.

Holy Cow! I certainly hope its now customary for SNOS's and OS3's to call the RFMC directly, because if those questions came from E6 and above that is downright embarrassing.

Just curious MC, if you care to share, the callers t****y on why the EPQ don't have to be completed by the prescribed deadline, like every other rating has to meet?

Actually, all the calls were from senior OSs who were sure they were required, but after multiple people, including ADMIN Staff said they were not, had to call to double check. The call was mostly to inform me that the rumor/perception was out there.

As a side note, I do not mind Junior folks calling me directly. Gives me ideas on what they are thinking and where problems may be.

... like I said, I take all calls. A lot of folks end up being surprised by the fact that I know all about the reason they are calling and they here the same thing from me that they heard form the Chief or the AO.

I would have let you know what I was thinking and where the problems may be - not related to anything with me - but related to what folks will tell me but won't tell others. That's what I meant.

Hmmm... fair enough. Can't say I'd know. Hopefully this post will cease some of your senior OS calls regarding advancement requirements.

Kinda off topic, but back in 2004, I was u/w and looking for the advancement lists online, but the darn website would never load.. I hit the "having issues" link and wrote an email asking if the link had been changed, and what do you know, it went to a YN Master Chief. Needless to say, I was later called into the Chiefs messed and pretty much chewed out for emailing a Master Chief. One of my more bad experiences in the Coast Guard.

BTW, I've heard the OS EPQ's are waived. Is this correct? Smile

Why don't you email me that question, then I can give you the full answer you deserve? Angel/Devil

MC,

Make sure you just send my chief an email, but don't tell me what I've done "wrong". And then make sure you tell my chief to be giggling when I go into the Chiefs mess, so I have no idea what is going on. Then when I smile because he is giggling, I will get even more chewed out for "thinking this is funny". Confused

Hey, I remember a few of those 'discusions' in the Chief's Mess when I was a PO. Once I made Chief, I realized how hard it is sometimes to make a person think you are really ****ed and chewing them out, when you really want to bust out laughing!
