Hey folks, there have been a couple of discussions going on about the possibility of an OS going to the ME Rating. Let me clear some thigns up.

If you are an OS and are intersted in this new rating, I would suggest reseraching it very deeply through all of the site listed on the related ALCOASTs, etc. Look at the Billet maps, the EPQs, etc. If you are still interested in this big leap, then submit an application.

That said, I have to manage your expectations some. First thing, is take notice that this is an irrevocable decision if selected. No 'do-overs.' Secondly, we have no clue at this point in time how selective the OS Rating team (the AOs and myself) can or will be in regards to releasing folks. That will depend greatly on the number of total folks applying to the ME rating, the number of OSs who apply and the skill sets and background of those OSs. I have two important jobs regarding this. One of course is to support the Comdt's initiative to stand up this new rating. The other is to support the Comdt's initiative of standing the Command Center Watch. We won't have a clue how these two things balance until sometime after the application deadline.

Let me close by repeating the most important part: If you are interesting and believe you have done enough research to understand what you are asking for, apply. Please also support those who you are responsible for in their research and potential application.

Thanks
MC

One of the ways to research this rating and get a taste of it is to visit a MSST or TACLET and see what the routine is for them. PT, Laws and proceedures is something to consider. Life after the CG....what doors will the ME rating open for me and do I want to be doing "that" job when I am in my 30 and 40's. Do I want to be wearing a gun belt, vest and dealing with people at an older age. Billet selections and locations ect.

Look at the here and now but also look 10-15 years down the road.

And the most important part....dont do it because you're unhappy with what you're doing now. Grass isn't always greener.

So...If you're not happy with what you're doing you should keep doing it? I'd argue that if you're not happy with what you're doing you probably SHOULD do something else. Razz

I agree 100%. If you 'force' someone into the inability to change their unhappiness at work, morale poos the sheet, and there's a good chance that complacency will occur shortly after...

No no no....what I am trying to say is dont change rates for the sake of getting out of your current rate. Change rates because it's in your best interest job wise and you'll excel at it instead of escaping one for the other.

You're right on. Everyone should research as much as they can before they apply. I know why i'm applying, I've pretty much been waiting 6 years for the opportunity, and I'm pretty certain I'll make a better ME than OS.

Its very important to look ahead.
Personally, Ive waited a good while for this rate. Ive been dead set on it. Being u/w and doing LE was a great time in my career. I woud love to make the switch and become an ME1. That said, I just reported to my latest unit and have 4 years here. You are req to complete your current tour. Im not leaving here without an anchor.

Long story short...
Id love to be an ME1. Great jobs all over the globe.

BUT

Id rather be an OSC than an MEC. Only WMSLs for MEC? ICK. If I have to stay OS to get u/w than thats where Ill stay!

MC-
As everyone is aware, the ME board has convened recently. How many (if any) OS's will be allowed to lateral and what paygrades? I'm currently at District 14 and submitted a package.
